Post Gear stuck in park

Today, for the first time I couldn’t get out of park. Any idea where to begin to look at, or how can I remove the center console around the shifter?

You poke a screwdriver down the hole when you move the flap out of the way behind the 'D'.
See attached file.

Removal of console is shown in this PDF. CLICK

Did you check to see if the steering wheel is hard over, against the stop. If it is you may not be able to move the shift lever. If this is the case, move the wheel off the stop just a bit and try the shifter. You may have known this and tried it all ready. Just a thought.
