Default DaimlerChrysler to split?

Top story on Pistonheads today reveals Chrysler on the way UP, and Mercedes on the way DOWN.
They're referring to build quality, but if the story is true then will this be the end of the line for the Crossfire or maybe even the 300C.

why should the 300 suffer? we already speculated the Crossfire wouldn't make it past '06 or '07 --

All I can suggest is to hold on to your Crossfires = They should become a definite collectors item in the near future!

I may be wrong but I thought the 300C is based around the old E Class, just like our cars our based around the SLK.

that is correct, the 300 is built on the old E-class chassis. that's why they could do RWD affordably since the chassis was already there.

I think they used only 300E rear end components but not the frame.

The 300C won't be going anywhere. There will NOT be any more Crossfire after '06...

The 300 is based off of the MB E-class. If I remember correctly, there is NO part sharing between the two. The LX cars have their own underpinnings that were designed off the out going E Class.

Oh, and your info about the two splitting is also wrong. The only prediction I have is, that we are going to see more Americans running the company.
