I would love to, but with school starting back up here this week, I don't have that kind of cash to blow. I'd rather invest my money in something that will have a positive effect on my future, If i got a s/c all i can see in the future is red and blue lights in my rear view.

I still think it is cheaper to find an engine from a wrecked C32 or SLK32 (or even a SRT-6 for that matter). I've seen these engines for around $2-3K. You would also be getting a hand built AMG engine, that is the kicker for me.

I wonder how long before some SLK 350 engines become available used/refurbed. I figure I got a good 4-5 years left an the warranty and the xfire is definitely a keeper as a toy. I don't think and extra .3l displacement should be an issue and the extra 45-50 hp would be perfect.

Not the best choice, since there was quite a few bugs with the first set of 3.5's and these I assume would be the first to go onto the used market. Your also going to run into issues with electronics, space, etc. with the 3.5.

Myself and ItalianMafia must have the same mindset since I posted the exact same reply in a different thread about engine mods and this option would be a person's best bet if they truly are serious about building up some decent h.p. numbers out of there Crossfire...

Respdoc,
I really would like to see a few owners give this a shot. I can't even think about it until I graduate (or win the lottery, whichever comes first). I really don't see this as being too much of a difficult task. I wouldn't try it myself but I know a few MB tuners that I could commission for such an undertaking.

One thing xfire owners are missing out on is performance. There aren't too many owners out there who are really trying to tune these cars (notice I didn't say zero). The owners that are out there working on these engines tend to stay in their own world and keep their research to themselves. That is something the community is missing. Every other car I've owned (PT, SRT-4, DSM Laser) has had a performance orientated crowd. I really miss that group...

Direct Link:

Looks like the total for all the parts is a little over $2100. Anyone have an idea of what other modifications would be necessary? Is the stock fuel system capable of handling the increased load? Would probably require a custom tune as well ~$1000. I see some great potential for someone to package everything together and sell as a kit!

I wouldn't get a custom tune. I would go with a wide band and a piggy back.

hey black srt, nice to have you here, seen you post a bunch over at srtforums.com. why did you sale the srt4? you would probably need bigger injectors and a new fuel pump, but i would guess you could just order the amg parts.

I think it could be all said and done for around 5k. Which isn't too bad. But still it would be a pretty expensive game of russian roulette.

Hopefully someone actually does it. Which I doubt.

i'm sure it could be done for less, if you do it yourself.

Probably, but I am talking about all the hardware needed. I doubt the stock fuel system could support the wanted power. But who knows. Really if you wanted to check into this I would go to slk forum, as I am sure someone has already done something like this, and will know a great more than either of us would.

I know I would love to do it, but like italianmafia school gets a lot of my $$$, which is more important than performance parts. Parts $$$ and school is a investment.

Screw a supercharger, I want a Hemi or even the 6 liter Hemi. Can you imagine a nice burbling V8 under the already beautiful stock Crossfire? Love.

I wonder if it could be done?

wonder dallas, it can and has been done. renntech put the 6.1 in a crossfire, and i'm sure you can buy it, if you have pockets as deep as the ocean though.

Ok, what about just using a SRT-6 computer, fuel system. I don't know if the computers are enter changeable or not, but I think it's worth looking into. I think I'm going to try to get some info on the differences from the SRT-6 and the N/A's.

I'm trying the srtforums, I think some of the pvo and srt team is still hang around from time to time. If we can get these guys to help then this just might be possible with little risks.

got some things stirred up with the slk guys over at the mercedes forum. looks like we will actually get this done one way or another. i don't know about you guys, but im really excited about this and think we might be onto something big here. the supercharger system for the z is 5 grand, turbo kits for the rx8 are about the same and z4 kits are way more and so are s2000 kits. if this work out, crossfire would be the best rwd 2 seater deal out there.

in regards to the tranny, now i'm not sure. I have been having problems with mine, and now today I think it needs to get looked at. it took me five times before it would engage in reverse. and I know I don't drive hard or fast in reverse as its my least fav direction to go in the crossfire especially with the wing up. also first is becoming a pain in the butt where it only engages like halfway or not even that sometimes. sorry for getting off topic, but i think the 6 spd tranny with an s/c would need some love too. and now to get back on topic, i wonder if you place a big enough order, if you can get a discount as if it were a real kit, or maybe a group buy?
