Default techno wipers

I thought it was wipers gone wild at first but after repeating the condition have discovered that:
The wipers are speed sensitive. When in the normal wiper mode they act normal - (no intermittent action) but when stopping vehicle they go into intermittent mode. Upon returning to desired speed they resume normal operation.
There is no mention of this in the manual.

Could you explain that again? I don't get it, i thought my wipers were just a slow, medium fast setting?

They are designed to stop or go intermittent when parked at a red light or similar. Pretty cool huh?

it appears that the wipers switch into intermittent mode when vehicle is not moving. Upon resuming forward motion, the wipers switch back to a normal mode of operation.

I find it pretty cool - just thought they should mention it in the manual.

When do they stop? My are intermittent at red light.

Well I guess they don't really stop, they just go from slow to not going/waiting for intermittent. That is what I meant. Sorry about that.

Also if they are on the fast mode and you come to a complete stop at a light they'll switch to slow speed automatically. And if in the Slow speed when you come to a stop at a light they'll switch to intermittent automatically. This is an old Mercedes feature before they introduced the Rain Sensor.

Ever notice they have a switch like that for the wipers, but the headlight switch doesn't have an "auto" setting?

Sorry this makes me smirk ... an English waiting for rain.

I found this feature the other day and it confused me a little. It's pretty cool because I used to turn into intermitted at red light manually before. I hate nervous wiping when not needed. But what I'm missing is a variable intermittent...

I have to agree that not having auto headlights is a pita. They are on just about every auto produced by mankind except this one. Even a Hyundai!

Are the day time running lights an option? The manual refers to them but ...

Also while I am at it, does anyone have auto dimming rear mirror? I seem to remember it was avail.

I actually like the fact that the headlights are manually actuated. It makes it easier to sneak back into my driveway after a long night of debauchery without waking up my family.

I have the auto-dimming mirror in mine and it works pretty good. I which they would have done that with the side mirrors as well.

The '04 was the last series to be equipped with auto dim. Sad but true, IIRC.
