Ok, of the red Crossfires, how many are Blaze Red and how many are Inferno Red?

 

All red Crossfires are Blaze Red. Also, all are Inferno Red because, apparently, the colors are identical. The paint code given for both is PRH (or 591) which pretty much guarantees there is no difference. All 2004 red Crossfires were sold with "Blaze Red Crystal Clearcoat." In 2005 the color was "changed" to "Inferno Red Crystal Clearcoat." So the color of red Crossfires is simply a matter of what was written on the sticker.

Chrysler already had a slightly different color named "Inferno Red Tinted Pearlcoat" with paint code PEL. So for some reason they discontinued PEL, replaced it with PRH, and renamed it Inferno Red..

 

If you check out MI Roadsters post of 3/23/2005 "What Color is Your Crossfire", the two color chips side by side are definitely not the same color.

 

Good observation. I think Chrysler has made it more confusing through the renaming. I'm not proclaiming to be an expert on Crossfire paint, but I'm still sure all red Crossfires are PRH, 591.

When you search for Crossfire paint codes using this site, the only red you get for 04 or 05 Crossfires is 591, PRH. They call it Inferno Red, and not Blaze Red. Next, I did a search on paint codes for the 05 PT Cruiser. Note that two different Inferno Reds were available for the Cruiser in 05, though the three stage PEL paint was phased out in favor of the two stage finish. So what you end up with is the 591, PRH Inferno Red Crystal Pearl of the Crossfire and simply PRH Inferno Red Crystal Pearl for the Cruiser, 300, and other Chryslers. Now I'm not sure as to what the 2nd color is in MI Roadster's scan, but the first is Blaze Red, 591, PRH, aka Inferno Red Crystal Pearl. The second shade is either PEL, or PRH, but it is also called Inferno Red. Below is some info on the formulations for each of the three Inferno Reds. Another thing to consider is that since the Crossfire is built in Germany it is possible that the formulation is specific to finishes used there. But one thing's for sure all red Crossfires are the same color, so you can call it whichever you want and still be correct.

I have seen a couple of new Chrysler products that have the metallic red color and is close but not the same as the Crossfire red color. The non-Crossfire color is a little "brighter" or more "dynamic" than the Crossfire color. The Crossfire color is a little less red than the other.

At least that is what I perceive when I see the two colors in close proximity.

 

Has anyone parked the Blaze Red and Inferno Red Crossfires next to each other in the noon day sun to see if there is any difference? I have never parked anywhere yet that I has even seen another Crossfire in the same parking lot (unless they were several hundred feet away) let alone another red one to compare the colors.

$150 option...why did I have this feeling that this was going to be the conclusion? God, I really like my $150 option!

 

I have a question about this. I have not seen a red one up close and personal, so could someone tell me if the red (no matter the shade) is metallic or enamel?

My Inferno Red Crystal Pearl Coat (what a mouth full) is metallic.

 

pearl coats are made of a ground formica additive. the particles are smaller and smoother than those found in metallic paints.

Hi Cissy, I'm a little confused by your question. Are you asking whether the red paint is non-metallic red like you husbands Vette, when you refer to it as enamel?

 

Sorry for the confusion. Yes, that's correct...like my husband's Vette. Here's the cool thing. He is thinking about selling his Vette and getting a Crossfire! I hope he does this. His n her Crossfire’s LOL. Although he likes my white best, I think he would consider a red Xfire IF it isn't "metallic". He doesn't like metallic paint. Actually, I don't either. We both prefer "enamel".

 

Cissy, I'm pretty sure all the colors on our XFs are enamel whether it's metallic or not. I like both, but non-metallic colors are usually easier to match if you have to do it.
That would be a big decision to make, trading a fairly new Vette in on a XF. I mean right now you have the best of both worlds so to speak. Glad I don't have to make that choice. Good Luck!

 

The problem is that the Corvette never gets driven. It is VERY pristine. It has never been driven in wet or even damp weather. You should see the engine compartment. Totally new and clean. It has only a few thousand miles on it. He even has the insurance way reduced since it sits there...all new and pretty.

He just doesn't have the interest anymore. He LOVES the XF and would actually drive that LOL. Glad it's not my decision either!

You are right about matching colors if needed when not "metallic". LOL

 

Then if that's the way he feels about it, then he should do it. Better make it an SRT so he won't have to go thru to much acceleration "with-drawl". It's a shame his Vette has been relegated to "Garage Art" but that's true about a lot of cars. All I can say is if I lived in Calif. all my cars would probably be Hi-Milers.

 

Here's the way it is. For years, he has always wanted a red Corvette. As a retirement present to himself, he bought one. After months of searching for just the right one (price, mileage, etc), he found his dream car in Texas. He flew out there and drove it home.

Once his dreamed was fulfilled, he enjoyed the hell out of it. Now, he wants to move on. The XF caught his eye big time. So, when it came time for me to get another vehicle, we both focused in on the XF. I bought it ...now he would like one too. I sure hope he goes through with it. Having "twin" XF's sounds good to me!

Interesting concept, two Crossfires. I wonder how many other members on the forum have given that a thought? I wonder if there's actually anybody out there who's already gone and done it?

 

I can picture it now. Two XF's in one driveway LOL. He's pretty smitten with the Alabaster White. Gee, TWO whites side by side. Heck, no contrast that way! :-D
