Question after my first oil change

I decided to get the oil changed today, seeing that the FSS now says 900, so why wait any longer. I get it changed, no problem and when I get home I decide to reset the FSS. After a couple tries, I ended up turning it and then 7,000 came up with two wrenches, is this correct or was I supposed to get one wrench. My car has 7,575 miles on it FWIW. Thanks alot guys, just wanna make sure I did this right!

7,000 miles seems to be a little low. Had my first service on Wednesday. After, the FSS showed 15,000 km (9,320 miles). Two wrenches means Service B, IIRC. Check your manual.

How much do you pay for the 3,000 mile services? About $90?

BobS has it correct. The two wrenches informs you that the NEXT service (in 7.000 miles) will be the more extensive "B" service.

It takes a bit of practice to reset the service interval indicator... getting the knack of it is everything. For instance, When the manual says to push the knob twice it does not say to do so QUICKLY.

You should have a service log with your car that lists what's required with each service. If you don't have one, there are scanned copies of the logbook on this site. I can't remember who posted them off the top of my head so hopefully the original poster will post us a link to his gallery (hint, hint).

They are at: https://www.crossfireforum.org/galle...00/ppuser/8790

I posted them for several people who didn't get the service log.

Yes, everyone in the U.S. should of received a plastic trifold with the owner's manual, a maintenance log and a warranty booklet. For those that didn't, you can find what is covered in the "A" and "B" service in the owners manual, starting on p. 232.

You did a good job of describing how the FSS counts down and how you may or may not get more/less than 7,000 miles between oil changes. I too have went well into the 9,000 mile range. (This has been debated in length in other older threads and I am of the belief you use the specified manufacture's fluids and schedule service as dictated by the FSS).

Off Topic:

One thing to note concerning the "B" service that I have not seen anyone mentioned in this forum. Although not a critical item, don't forget about the HVAC filter. It's supposed to be changed during the "B" service but I let it slide till I had the car almost two years with 23k on the odometer.

My dealer charged $48.60 for the filter and wanted $27.50 to install it. They have been selling Crossfire's since Aug '03 and didn't even have one in stock. The parts manager said I was the first to request one. I asked why it wasn't on hand since it was a scheduled service item. He said if they used two in a one year period they will keep them on hand, otherwise they have to order it as needed. After it came in I did it myself saving a few $$$ and a second trip to the dealer to have it put in.

Note: I live in a dusty area and the HVAC filter wasn't in all that bad of shape. I don't think you need to do it every "B" service as suggested.

How come my FSS was reset after the A service and showed 15,000 km (over 9,000 miles) to the next B service? Is it possible US versions have shorter intervals than EUR models?

My A service was done at 19,500 km (12,300 miles) when the FSS display showed 0. But don't know anymore at what number it started.

That's a good question! I just had a service B done and the FSS reset to 7,000 miles (11,600 km). I guess it's possible to have different software for each region the car is shipped to. But I can't see why they would do that unless it was some kind of regulatory compliance thing. Only DC knows for sure.
