Question Engine break in period ?

I just bought a '05 crossfire coupe and I heard that you should break in your motor.

I haven't taken it over 3,500 RPM's but I'm not sure for how long. Any suggestions?

It's no different than any other car.

I got my Coupe with less then 100 miles on it. I run it the way I like my women brother - Fast - I drive that car hard. Break in time??? I guess that's out the window, I can't read and no one told me there was a break in period... I see 4,500 - 5,000 rpm constantly, never let up, push all the gears going up. Then I down shift the automatic just like I when up with it... it'll seat those rings brother... I'll let you know if I ever have a problem with the engine, but I don't see it.

I was told that for the first 1,000 miles, no "real hard" revving, all out flooring it, etc. There was no limit on speed. (The 350Z I test drove was the same exact thing) Fortunately, I made two long trips shortly after getting it, so it was out of the way quickly.

that's funny- got a chuckle with that!

two schools of thought on break-in:

old school ...go easy on revs and speed for 4-5,000 miles or
new school ...run it hard- show no mercy

The reason being that the older engine design needed rings etc. to seat properly - tolerances were not as precise.
new engine design has far better, more precise engineering tolerances and ready to be rode hard and put up wet.

Actually there is a third school that subscribes to both of these:
ie: ride hard for brief periods and then go easy...

there is a web site that explains all of this which i will try to remember...

I just went through a seriously long engine replacement due to scored and slapping pistons... (at 8,000 miles, I bought her used and got a nicely used engine as well). Anyway... the new engine, was a complete unit... all new... dealer took over 60 days to build it. No break in required, no short time oil change, no special needs or requirements as mentioned by the building mech. Just drive the car as you normally would and don't worry. She runs like a charm, I'm happy so far.
