Default Lots of Crossfire Junk on E-bay

...anyone notice that the amount of Crossfire stuff on e-Bay has ballooned from the usual 200 or so items we saw for the last half of 2005, into about 750 or so items in 2006?

Alas, it's not the legit, affordable performance stuff that I've been waiting for. Instead, the web is littered with cheap crap, much of it probably made in China. We're talking "turbonators", ridiculous universal "Remus" mufflers, etc. Oh yeah, there are admittedly nice Borla kits... posted "Buy It Now" for $689 (when Monicatti Chrysler in the Detroit area will let you have one for around $590), etc.

Question: when will these hucksters sit down and actually make something (reasonably priced) that I want to purchase and put on my car? This is a friggin' luxury sports coupe, so chances are we aren't going to be interested in the same LED windshield squirters and neoprene seat covers that are all the rage in the Civic community.

I know what you mean. For a Corvette you can pick up just about any magazine or catalog and find all sorts of quality items. You and I both know we’ll never see that for our XF’s and for me that’s ok. I’m quite happy to just drive it as it is but I do know most people like to personalize their car.

If I thought it would make an icehead steal it quicker, I would have installed them weeks ago...my car is in the shop again...

Ha Ha Ha, leave the keys in it, and park it down by the zoo.

Unfortunately I think the answer to that question is "never." The reason for this is twofold: First, why should they? This car's price has been falling so fast that its now affordable to the same crowd that likes all that crap in the first place. Its only a matter of time before we start seeing the understated elegance of this car overrun by blazing multi-color paint jobs, 24" spinners, badly-done unpainted "ground effect" body kits, and of course, LED windshield squirters. :-) Second, this car will never see large aftermarket support because of it's limited production numbers. Any stuff that does come out will tend to be pricey because of the car's luxury sports coupe status. If you want to play you have to pay. Such is life. So the lesson to be learned here is that if you're looking for lots of aftermarket support, this probably isn't the car for you. I think that most of the popular mods done to this car will be thought up by resourceful owners, like Dan's emblems or HDDP's brake upgrade. The aftermarket, if it ever does show up, will be a long time in coming.

As posted, all the upgrades available for the MB would work. This is as close as we will get to aftermarket selection but at least it’s something.

Yeah, the only way to search that crap is by searching for:
crossfire -mpg -led -gas -shirt -arctic -prowler -lhs -"racing seat" -universal -"trim kit" -photo -"plate frame" -"conversion kit" -"performance chip" -brochure -"intake mod" -decal -key chain -car cover -"car cover" -"dealer only" -paint -chain -corvette -shark -sign -lambo -mat -floor mat -remus

but you'll still get over 400 items you could buy in the ricer's aisle at pep boys.

Reading that was the perceptual equivalent to the sound of fingernails scraping down a blackboard. I cringe at the thought.
