Nose Bra
Well it's getting close to Love Bug season here in Florida. It is the only time that the use of a nose bra is warranted to save the paint where the bugs hit the car. They have an acid in their bodies that actually eat the paint off if you don't get it washed off quickly. I've had a nose bra for every car that I've owned since I moved here. I was going to order a Bra through Mopar. It's a little pricey, but I've been lucky with fit and finish when I purchased from the dealer. I was just wondering if anyone uses a nose bra and what company they used and how they liked it. Any suggestions or information would be appreciated. Thanks, Bob
I have the mopar one and use it quite extensively here in Florida, but not so much for bugs but for road debris and to prevent stone chips from our lovely I-95 (where cement trucks share the road with you quite often and are losing small chunks of cement onto the highway and dump trucks without their cargo net have debris flying off their back into the traffic). Its a perfect fit and looks real good. It fits real snug and never flaps. I've had the car up to 130 with the bra and no flaps at all. It's real easy to put on and take off and very easy to wash. I highly recommend the Mopar one.
I also have the Chrysler/MOPAR cover and the fit is excellent. I only use it for road trips and love bug seasons. Fortunately where I am, they haven't been too bad the last couple of years.
Wow I love this forum. Thanks for the fast reply. I'm glad to hear that the Mopar is worth it. That's how I will probably go. I found the Mopar website, so I'll by pass the dealer. Thanks again, Bob

I had a clear bra for abut 2 years. I think I am going to try one of these leather ones on my new vehicle. The clear bra ends up getting wax lines over time no matter how hard you try to avoid it. Also, the clear bra ends up staining with bugs, and over the two years, it didn't look so go any longer, at least not so invisible like it did at new. And the cost of around $350 isn't cheap, either...a good product but still not perfect.
I like the idea of putting the leather bra on for long road trips, and taking it off otherwise. I'm sure it will have its disadvantages, too.

as for the wax lines... it all has to do with the type of wax you use. i don't have any problems in this area.
the down side of a clear bra... it does tend to yellow over time (on a white car).

~ as for the indentions on the hood... you can order the clear bra to go into the indentations or around the indentations. i have the bra that goes into the grooves. it looks good imo.

I use Zaino Bros. They were rated to be the best, by far, by a now (I believe) defunct magazine called Guru reports, although their website is still running at www.gurureports.org
I have been told before that if you use the right wax, you won't get wax lines on the clear bra. I don't understand how that could be. If the wax turns hazy when it cures (and what wax doesn't), it will leave the haziness at the edge of the bra. It took A LOT of detail work to get it out of mine, and it would never be completely gone. When you add up the distance of the perimeter of the edge of the bra, you end up with about 30 feet of detail work. It got old real fast...
Maybe the wax lines are just less noticeable on light colored cars...blaze red really contrasted with white, that is for sure.
By the way, Zymol Councours Carnauba was rated 40 out of 46 on their score card, with 46 being the bottom of the list. They did mention, though, that this wax has a strong following. I should scan the report card page and post it. Hey...I can start a new thread on waxes, that oughta be fun!

~ we call those independent studies (seen it)... i have my own study of being a prior owner of a detailing business for over 10 years... and trying a lot of different waxes.

Also, what is the process of not getting a wax build-up on the clear-bra line...I may resort back to one if the wax lines can really be avoided (I tried everything, except for not waxing the edge!).
