2nd ANNUAL Fall 2008 "Tail of the Dragon" meet -Oct 31 - Nov 1, 2
Good points Jane.
I am confident with you and the others here who have offered their help we will have a good structure for the weekend.
As I mentioned in a previous post I will be arriving Friday late afternoon and staying until Monday morning.
I think we should have drives planned for both Saturday and Sunday.
Bill is still maintaining the members attending thread in post #2 through June 25
He will then be on vacation til July 11
I will do my best to keep the list current during his absence.
I hope he will then at least continue the attending list ongoing up til the meet.

If things go as I've planned, I'll be coming in on Thursday to drive the loop in good weather. Will be happy to lead a group. I don't think I'll be providing ladies activities as I think we can all socialize together in the evening. Maybe we can do some planning on Thursday. I would favor having a plan to welcome drivers, making sure we have a simple agenda outlining when we will drive the loop along with a simple map of the loop. For new drivers, we need to make sure we do some brief education about the loop and basic driving skills, safety issues and most importantly, staying to the right of the yellow at all times.

Bill,
Glad to see you posting again. Remember, you owe me a ride in a "real" sports car.
Cathy says she will give chase in the wimpy NA roadster.
See you at the Fall Dragon II
roadster with a stick

It's no different than any other road as far as that goes........sometimes they are there, sometimes they aren't. Even at speedlimit, or a little better, you can have a blast driving the dragon.
why so may different divisions, does it really matter, could we have just
a list of names to attend... ?
The Updated Drivers' List :
(10) 'Designated' Group Drivers (Lodge Only) (Now Accepting a Few Good Men {or Women} w/Experience!)
Other Drivers (Staying at Lodge)
Other Drivers (Drive-in for Saturday only)
29 XFs - Committed (08 Reserved~, & 01 Drive-in)
00 XFs - Scratched (See you there in the Spring ?)
29 Total XFs (Including the Ladies Division)
Ladies Division:
02 XF's - Confirmed
00 XF's - Scratched
02 Total

You can check out this site for further info:
http://www.tailofthedragon.com/
Also, the speed limit in the national forest is 65mph unless posted, and they only post yellow cautionary signs, no speed limit signs (at least that I've seen). I think the biggest threat of a ticket will be off the dragon where you can get spped, and radar has a good line of sight.
I did see a couple of LEO's on my two trips to the Dragon, but the only person I saw pulled over was a lady in a beater that couldn't stay on her side of the yellow line. On this stretch of road crossing the yellow is extra dangerous since every other turn is blind.
The Blount County and THP $200K stepped up enforcement grants run out 9/30/08, so we should be fine for the fall GTG.
If you want, we could run a point man with a radio. Last fall the VW R32's had a point man as well as a safety car bringing up the rear.
BTW - last spring I saw a LEO playing on the dragon with his black Crown Vic. Looked like he was having fun. If he was also getting paid, I'm jealous.
Here is a link to an area radar coverage map:

Here's a trivial question, thinking way too far in advance:
Is there a good placed to wash your car near by?

No matter what, a Fontana Lodge Crossfire car wash will bring out a lot of laughs and joking around if ya share it with a few others at the same time.
See ya there !!!

Hey All,
I just now made reservations at the lodge, but I made them for 2 rooms. I'm allowing our best friends to slum along with us. I hope they can keep up-they'll be in a 2003 Z4 Roadster.
So Valk, do you want to put them on the list? It's Bruce and Cindy from Auburn AL. You can put them down as Tina's and my kids!
Great folks, you'll like them both. Lotsa' fun!
BOO!
