Default Hard Top for Roadster??

During a recent bout of inclement weather I have started to notice that many owners of other make roadsters (Z4, miata and so on) seem to be sporting removable hard tops on their vehicles.

I am still unsure if I would actually want one for my roadster but I have started to think (fantasize) about what form one could take and how you would attach it to the roadster.

Wouldn’t it be cool if a hard top could be produced that made the roadster look like the coupe (of course it would only be used in really bad weather). The hard top could attach to the wind shield using the same fasteners as the soft top but in order to get the right shape the rear of the hard top would have to attach to the roadsters boot lid.

The only problem would be the deployable wing – I have not thought it through but I think the SRT fixed wing could be attached to the hard top (cool).

I have tried to photoshop this but gave up as it was too hard and was taking too long (you will have to use your imagination).

Anyway. Just letting my imagination roam.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the hard top was an optional accessory offered by the manufacturer.

A retractable hard top would be awesome, but a removable one...
I'll stick with my stock Roadster!

Yes we had a Roadster with a removable hard top. It was called a Jeep.

It was always a pain in the butt storing it when it was off...

personally i'd love if that had a detachable hard top. my mother has a convertible, hopefully soon i'll have one too, but i hate the way they look with the top up. it would be nice to have a hard top to put on all winter or when it's cold out, and just use the rag top in the summer when you'll be putting it up and down more often for rain and stuff.

Personally i think our car with the top up is the best looking roadster out there. Have you looked at a boxster or miata or z4 with the top up?

I agree that the Crossfire is a great looking car even with the top up. I saw 5 Solstices this week alone, and really don't like the top from the rear. That means I've already seen more Solstices on the road than Crossfires, and I've had my car since last Summer!!!

One of the main reasons I waited for the 05 roadster to come out, one of the few convertibles that still look good with the top up.

Yeah, the back side of the Solstice top has a lot of nooks and crannies, you might say. I fear for Solstice owners that they'll have nothing but trouble with that top. It just looks to me like it will fall apart, or have major mechanical issues. Especially at the price they're selling the car, I have no faith in it.

Plus on the Solstice the top is manual, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but I believe you have to get out of the car to put the top down.

Just like the Corvette. I can't believe they aren't making their top self lowering yet.
Oh, what was I thinking. It's GM.

I'd have to agree.

I have a Miata and I have never really cared for the looks with the soft top up. But since I have been enthralled with her these past 17 years, I am used to it. I also have a hard top for her. Boy, she looks much sleeker with it on...plus the Miata's hard top gives her a wrap around rear window.
