Default some newb Q's about the roadster

just randomly I looked at some roadsters on ebay. got a nice one for like $21k 2005 with 24k or something like that...i'm sure i can pick one up for cheap over the winter lol (or if someone is willing to trade even with me, i'm game).

but anyhow... i used to own 99 SLK230 convertible and i traded it or a '06 Civic EX w/ nav and traded (sold) to get the '06 Civic SI.

i go through cars like you wouldn't believe. i sat in a coupe while back and thought it had HORRIBLE rear view from the driver seat.

i mainly like the unique (odd) styling of the Crossfire and i love convertibles.

first thing i want to know how the visibility is with the top up and down.

are there any major problems associated crossfires in general and with the top? i sold mine because the top was about to take a **** with the faulty micro switches causing the roof to stick...(and or any other problems).

its nice to get MB's engine for such a low price...another advantage but its kinda dated technology (i would think) everything on the crossfire is pretty much from the older gen SLK's.

i'm kinda torn whether to actually pursue or not... convince me.

here's my car:

convince you? i fell in love with the crossfire when i first saw it in '01. when they made it production i was disappointed in the headroom, i'm 6'3" and forgot about it. when they came out with the roadster...i was in love even more, how could they make a great looking car even sexier?!! also the 3" extra headroom really sold me. i feels like a glove around me. yes, the rear visibility isn't the best but you notice from the first time entering you have to "step down" in it to get in. the doors are much higher than a conventional car. and thats the bottom line imo...it isn't at all conventional. i don't see alot of them either but i certainly get alot of attention driving it. bonus...its a direct concept to production car and kept MANY of the hues from the original. yes, it has not the most up to date mercedes parts but its still a benz...baby!! if you need to be convinced to buy one perhaps you shouldn't. it was a no brainer for me except the price. i bought mine used at 15,000 miles and saved around $17,000 dollars. very happy with my purchase and it was definitely a no-brainer for me. there is absolutely no car i've ever had that gives me that great smile on the inside every time i look at it...hope this helps, benji

well i need to be convinced because i have never driven this car let alone sit in one (roadster).

and i don't know what kind of problems certain cars have. and all cars have some kind of problems...i have encountered with every car i've owned...i just don't want it to be something outrageous that dealer won't fix or something like that.

my main decision factor is "LOOKS" and crossfire has it.

I bought mine in June of this year. I love my car. No issues. Visibility with top up not too great. Have to use your side mirrors and make sure you've checked and rechecked your blind spots before switching lanes and backing up. However, the side mirrors do the job.

You must find a roadster to test drive. It's a kick in the pants to drive and you'll be sold after your first mile. If you go through cars like crazy...you owe it to yourself to drive a Crossfire if for nothing else than to have every car on the road envy your "ride".

06CivicSI, You could probably buy a brand new XF Limited for about the same price as you paid for your SI, a roadster will naturally cost ya a little more.
The difference between the Crossfire and your SI is noticeable, but then you already had a SLK230 so you know what I'm talking about. But with the 320 engine the difference is even more pronounced.
I'm more of a Honda man myself, (I wish I could afford to buy yours) and I recommend Honda to just about anybody who asks my opinion. But the Crossfire is on an entirely different level.
It probably isn't any faster in the 1/4 mile than your SI, but that's where the similarity ends. As much as I like my Hondas, I "love" my Crossfire.
Normally, I would probably suggest to someone like you (who already owns a Civic SI) to consider a new S2000. But as nice as those cars are, they just don't have the "head turning" ability of the Crossfire.
When it comes to reliability, I'd have to say the Honda probably has the Crossfire beat. And before everybody on the forum jumps on me, I'm only saying that because I've driven over 1/4 of million miles in new Hondas, and never had to take one back for any type of warranty work.
The Honda is a car that you can feel perfectly secure with, the Crossfire is a car you can be "passionate" about.

you're talking a coupe right? i'd probably never get a Crossfire coupe...

i don't like S2000 cause they are dated... interior is from 2000! engine trans essentially the same and just too much noise. my car is completely stock, exception to the k&n filter, and it is still too loud. i'm not old by any means...soon be 23 yrs.

if the price is right, i'll buy anything. lol.

i've been known to buy cars for cheap and sell it for more.

what are the difference between the regular roadster and limited?

i like the two tone interior and heated seats...

what are some good prices?

like i said, if someone wants to trade me straight up for a roadster, i'm game.

I had an Accord and yes, it was a reliable, perfectly suitable car for many years and like all the dozens of other Hondas on the road, it made for a safe and secure mode of transportation...but I simply cannot compare my Honda in any way, shape, or form to my Crossfire roadster...I use to be a brunette...good times and certainly enjoyed those years...but I decided to "go blonde" several years ago, and let me tell you...Blondes do have more fun and that's how I feel about driving my Crossfire...just an all-out blast!

if anyone has pictures of how the convertible top opens and closes (by the cover) that would be awesome.

it is fully automatic right??? on my SLK i had zero latches which was pretty cool and it covered it self neat which is lacking on most convertibles.

PAULW, that would work too. But since she brought it up, I just thought it would be kinda fun to see some "before and after" photo's.

Check autotrader and see if someone is selling one or is on a used car lot. I bought mine at a Ford dealership. They were clueless about the car which made for an easy 'deal' when we started to talk "numbers".

I believe the Crossfire will always be a unique and very limited production automobile making it one of the best in recent times. You can't help but be passionate about driving it and just looking at it.

All Roadsters are limiteds. There are NO base Roadsters (at least not in the US). Obviously, the visibility in the Roadster with the top up is poor. That said, visibility in every Roadster I've ever driven was poor with the top up. Top down is great driving, and top up is also great driving.

The difference here is that most members of this forum needed no one to convince them. My advice, don't buy it. You need to convince yourself, and if you have to convince yourself then this isn't the right car for you. I'm going on my 9th month of ownership and I still get a kick when I turn the corner and see it. This is a car that looks as good parked as it does driving.

i built a crossfire (2005) and found only ONE dealer in reasonable distance with limited roasters... TONS of SRT-6 COUPE's.

fast as it may be...coupe's can blow my *****. lol.

and found a used one in michigan... i wanna pay like $18k which is the trade in value for the car.
