Default Winter Handling

I am looking to buy an '05 roadster. The price seems very reasonable for a factory refurbished car. However the dealer clams up when I ask him about how the car handles in winter (New England = snow) it has traction control. However I remember my old corvette in snow...definitely not a recommended experience.

How does the Roadster handle in snow?

A = ride from Hell.
B = use common sense and be smooth on gas/brake.
C = not bad like most cars.
D = like a four wheel drive.

I don't seriously expect many D's.

Thank you.

Get. Winter. Tires. I don't know how many times I have to say it before it becomes common sense. Do not drive your vehicle on summer tires in the snow. Summer tires are too far below their operating temperature in freezing weather, and their tread design is inappropriate for traction. Get a good set of Blizzaks or Pirelli Snowsports for your vehicle on an extra set of wheels and just switch back and forth as weather permits. You will save yourself lots of worry, and will have the best of both worlds. Combining a proper winter tire with the excellent traction and ESP system our cars are equipped with does wonders. I have yet to have any scary moments in my car, and we've been sitting on a foot of snow for the last couple of weeks.

In Seattle, we have only a few days of snow and most is gone in a day or so. This winter we've had several more snow days. My car is definitely an A in the snow as we have hills and crazy, non-snow drivers on the roads and I don't have snow tires...consequently, I don't drive my car when it's extremely cold (icy) or snowy. I would definitely get snow tires if this is your only ride. I have another option..a Jeep Cherokee, and that car is fantastic.

PS: You'll love your roadster!

~ like rydiak said... it really comes down to the type of tires you run... m&s do great on nearly any car.

my old X5 with dunlop M3 snows was a machine in the winter months.

another sport ute soon to come.

Agreed, I just faced my first winter with summer tires, and it was horrible. I had to miss work, when everyone else made it in. I also got stuck and had to pull over because I was driving sideways. I am never driving mine in the snow again. Could of easily been in an accident.

Hello,

I would say "B".

Here in Germany we normally have snow during winter, this year less. Last winter we have had 3 weeks with 10-40cm. Winter tires are necessary, 18'' 225 front and rear. Switch to "W" to start in the second gear. Due to the short frame the Crossfire intends to break out with the rear in curves when it is icy, but not more than other rear driven cars.
