Talking Porter Cable 7424

I just used my Porter Cable 7424 for the first time. I love this little guy! I used Meguires Tech Paste Wax. Way better than Ice. If you ever work real hard on waxing your little beast and the end result is a great looking car and sore arms, I highly recommend this tool. I posted some pics in the galleries. Take a look.

Did you use your PC-7424 to remove the wax, or to apply it?

I used the microfiber applicator with ice liquid clay and then I used mequires purple car wash soap and then I used the PC 7424 to apply the mequires tech wax and then used the PC 7424 with a microfiber cloth on top of the applicator pad to buff it to an amazing shine in no time.

Great job. Your XF looks absolutely spectacular. And best of all, you did it yourself.

Gwetoe,

Great job...do you have any swirl marks? My black Crossfire's paint was not well taken care of before I got it and was one giant swirl mark with some scratches.

I now also have the PC 7424. I also bought a number of pads for different purposes. I use the Sonus SwirlBuster Polish with their SwirlBuster pad http://www.autopia-carcare.com/son-450.html then use the Meguiar's NXT (fills in some of the tiny scratches) and finish off with their Acrylic Glanz sealer. Not quite perfect but it looks mighty fine...

Again great job, I know first hand how hard it is to keep a black car looking good! Nothing beats a black car with a mirror shine for looks but "...if you don't take the time, you won't get the shine..."

It did help in reducing the swirl marks a lot! However, I did not get any additional pads. I just used the white to apply the wax then put a microfiber cloth on top of the pad to buff it out. Thank you for the compliments.

Too funny...I used the EXACT same combination last Saturday on my Crossfire (purchased w/ dealer induced swirls) with my PC. I've been using a PC for years and now would never consider anything else to apply wax and polish. And, I always use a good microfiber towel to take the wax off (I must have hundreds by now - LOL). The Swirlbuster system seems to have the right combination of filling/removal for most spider webbing and swirls I've found. With repeated use (so they say), the results should be even better.

Just took these to show the purty finish. There are some specs on them (damn dust).

That's funny! I was already looking at the photos via the gallery. Great job! Did you just finish waxing the car?

Congrats on a beautiful finish, looks great. I was going to do mine this past weekend, but my honey-do list didn't allow it.

I waxed it last weekend. Gave it the California Duster treatment last night followed by a wipe down with the Sonus Acrylic Glanz (cross between a detailer, sealer and gloss enhancer). I believe it is a repackaged item from Klasse.

I am not familiar with what a sealant and gloss enhancer are. Please enlighten me.

My understanding of the sealant is to add a layer that is more resistant to wear. In the SoCal sun it seemed to soften the wax coat. I would barely touch the surface and leave streaked fingerprints.

The http://www.autopia-carcare.com/ website has lots of good stuff with videos on how to properly detail a car.
