Default Cel P0455 & Fuel Sender Unit

A new level of Chrysler incompetence...had engine code P0455 (large emissions leak) off and on the last month or so. No problem with driveability, just an annoying CEL. Finally, with MAJOR misgivings took the car in to the dealer. They did not disappoint. First told me it is the fuel sender unit and needs to be ordered. Fine, they are the experts, however, fuel sender unit has a separate code P0462or 463 or something and this was not being thrown. THE NEXT DAY, the car started exhibiting signs of a fuel sender malfunction! The fuel gauge is totally screwed up....the gas cap is stuck on with some sort of suction. When you take the cap off, the car is sucking in air!! Took the car in to be "fixed" today. Well, new unit installed, car is reeking of gas, fuel gauge still screwed and when making a sudden stop, heard a tidal wave of gas swishing around under the car!!!! This is going back in this afternoon. All this when a piece of black tape over the freaking CEL would have cost $.50 and fixed the "problem".
However, the dealership would be more than happy to get me in one of the three 2008 roadsters that have been sitting on the lot.

Ok, we are over one month out...17 days spent driving a rental (mini-van) and no better. First they installed a new fuel sender unit. After about 50 miles, the gas gauge began rising til above full. Took the car back. Apparently flipped over the fuel sender unit. After about 50 miles, gauge took a nose dive below empty (note that there was 1/2 tank of gas and low fuel light remained off). They then had to order whole new gas tank, another sender unit and a tube of some kind. Over two weeks later, get the car back. Of course super excited. Well, that was one week ago. Today low fuel light begins flashing concurrently with the check engine light lighting. Guess the car is going back in. The worst part is that this would never happen in the middle of a Chicago winter, it has to be the middle of a nice stretch of 75-80 degree sunny days!!!

Wow, that really sucks! Can you bring it to a more competent shop? If there is such a thing.

There's a good reason why Chrysler is trying to get rid of Chrysler dealers.

It sounds like there's some seriously shady stuff going on here.

Here's some logic for you: Replacing a single part with a brand new part will never cause MORE problems. Remember that, just in case those service weasels are trying to brainwash you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
