Roadster needs Help, excessive tire wear
I have a 05 with 6800 miles, stock suspension. while traveling last week I hit a major storm outside Milwaukee and started to hydroplane around 50 mph. When I got home I took a good look at my tires and found the front tires were worn on the outside edges and were down to the wear bar on both sides. the rear tires, the tops are tilting inwards and the inside of the tires are down to the wear bars. what's left of the tires are around 6/32. I serach this site and read all the notes concerning tire wear, some say it can be aligned, other say nothing we can do, and other say we need some sort of alignment kit. I understand that the Continentals are not a good tire. I'm going in sat for an alignment and putting on new Goodyear Eagle F1's. Does anyone know if any of the manuels have a std alignment spec? I can't afford to do this again in 7k miles after spending $1100 dollars for the new tires.

Replacing the Conti's is a great decision. My rears were worn to 4/32 after about 15K, but the fronts look like new. Still do in fact, as I removed them and replaced with Falkens.

And as for the 6800 miles: I don't see how, without excessive autoxing, they could have that much wear. Sounds like something to definitely persue.

Something is def. wrong there. Mine has a tick over 5000 and the tires still look new.
Even the rears that have a tendancy to make funny noises when I take off.

I think you need an alignment. I have the Conti's, and while they would not have been my first choice still look like new after 22K miles. I don't think it's the tire. If you don't get to the root of the problem, you will go through this again soon.

29k miles and still original Contis. Not down to the wear bars. But I did mostly highway driving on them. I may get them again, but will also look at some of the summer tire jap brands when the time comes to replace.

I got the connies' on my car but I just got it so I don't know how old the tires truely are....but I'm just about 38,000 and they "appear" fairly good shape...no ware bars as of yet.

Could be a steering stabilizer issue (if you search for it, you will find it. I think 'NeverEnough' may have started the thread).
I've got ~6,450 miles on my Contis (and the car) and they have worn great.
I did get caught out in the rain once (Woodward 2007) and they performed horribly IMO.

Follow up, took the car in today for tires and the alignment. Front tires off on both camber and toe and the rear tires off on toe. Steering wheel is straight again and the rear tires are just slightly tipped in. the shop found no reason why tires were off that much to destroy them in that amount of mileage. I will do some tire wear measurements myself and maybe spend some money and bring the car in next summer for an alignment check just to be sure. I got a copy of the new measurements so I have something to compare the next one too. Thanks for everyones thoughts.

I have Toyos on the front, Potenzas on the back..after about 10k miles mine need to be replaced aswell..I suspect Kauffman Tire put it on wrong..When I get my new tires im taking it to the Mercedes Dealership
