Black Strip between top and hard shell top boot
Black Strip between top and hard shell top boot
I don't know how or why but the black strip of what I think is some special kind of tape that goes between the top when it's up and the hard shell tonneau cover is really faded and has a chunk missing. This is a 2005 and came to me this fall with only 1971 miles. If I had to guess why it's faded it's probably because this is one of those Crossfire's I keep hearing about that sat outside in a lot for over a year before it was sold at a special Chrysler auction. I am the second owner, the original owners in service date was 12/06. That means this car sat somewhere a long time. The sun probably faded it and the missing chunk may have had something to do with the protective shipping plastic they put on the top during it's delivery. I looked close at the ends and I think it's some kind of special tape. The car is off the road for the winter and I want to get a lot of detailing and appearance upgrades done over the winter and be ready to roll by spring. If anyone has replaced this strip, or has had the dealer do it let me know so I can have some food for thought. See the photo below. Over the winter I also want to buy the lighted door sill plates and one of these cool lighted windscreens I see here on this sight. I am also shopping for (don't cringe) a set of spoke wire wheels.

KingPennSky makes the windblockers.

And while I don't know how long it will last, the last time I detailed my roadster, I went a little overboard using Meguiars Step One Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner and "cleaned" right over the strip with my Porter Cable 7424 and an orange pad.
I figured "what the heck", and used the Step Two Polish and it cleaned up very, very well. I used Turtle Wax Ice polish (just on the tape strip) and it really looks 100% better than ever.
I guess it was just the cleaning/polishing action that did it.
I'm not going to touch it again this year, so if folks are interested, they can see it at the Tail of the Dragon this weekend.
