I've used Cruise Control on my 06 Roadster 4 or 5 times all during daylight hours. Today during a 2 hour drive along the Columbia River I couldn't find any dashboard indicator to tell me it was either on or off. The text in the owner's manual has nothing to say about a dashboard indicator. The master icon summary on page 5 has no Electronic Speed Control icon. Am I the only one that finds this odd ? or perhaps I'm missing something.

 

There is nothing on the dashboard to indicate if the cruise is on. Just have to know that its on.

That's correct no indicator at all.
It's a weird sensation when you let off of the throttle and the car continues to cruise down the road. I guess that would be your indicator right there!

 

I like to use my cruise alot. This one is really nice cause I can just stick my finger out and push up or down on the stalk to speed up or slow down with traffic. Heavy traffic dosent work though. Who wants to 'cruise' at 5mph??

The CC works quite well for me and seems to respond to speed changes (going up or down hills). If you have a manual transmission and switch gears with the CC on, it will resume within a second or so if you don't hit the brakes.

 

This CC works better than most, and I've driven many. The wand end "tap-up/Tap-down" is much more convenient than either Ford or GM method of fiddling with the little buttons. Ours is much more ergonomically designed.
and accurate-I've pulled up and down some long hills and seen no more than 1 mph change. Nice.

 

Agreed. It's location is good. Sometimes I think it is accidentally the turn signal.

I'm not very happy with the way that the CC is set up on our '08 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It's annoying to use and sometimes you feel like you have to take your eyes off the road to look for the control.

 

Oh, yeah. That's what I mean. It takes 2 weeks to use in the dark safely.

 

As wonderful as the Benz Cruise control works, it will most likely fail.

They seem to be good for about 125 M miles and then they get winky. And no one seems able to fix them. Even if you spend lots of money, and you will.

My 86 diesel at 280M miles works unless you hit a bump.
My 91 SEL at 147 miles worked if the AC compressor fuse was blown
My 90 SEL at 120M miles works when ever it choses too, which can be a bit of a surprise coming off the interstate.

The XFire is my fourth Benz product and the only one that still has a reliably working cruise control. I will never trust it. I won't try to fix it when it goes, in 2016 when the warranty is out.

But I do like it's ease of use. Best ergonomics ever.

They may be "the best engineered cars in the world," but they have their foibles.

Cruise controls, cabin thermostat controls, speakers, window motors and remote mirrors. Chevy builds more reliability in these components.

And for you roadster owners, Keep your top operation cables lubed.

Althought I like the crusie operation of the Crossfire.. I have yet to find a cruise control system that works as good as those on a Honda or Toyota. I prefer the rocker switch on the spoke of the steering wheel to the stalk that we have. Its just right where i hold the wheel and i can just use my thumb to increase/decrease/turn on/off/resume.. much more convience and ergonomic than the one on the Crossfire.

 

Dashboard Indicator - My original point was that it appears there is no indicator anywhere within the guage cluster telling the driver the CC is on, or off . . . . . I guess I'm OK with that, now that I know. Is this an automotive trend ? or just a Crossfire enchanced feature ?

 

Not a trend just a Benz thing. My S430 has the same setup and no cruse indicator

 

I worked for Ford back in the 70's. All MB's back then had Ford CC's. Doubt they still do, but maybe.

 

CC icons vary by mfr and even within product lines. My wife's 2007 Mercury Milan and my daughter's 2003 Audi A4 have a CC indicator; my 2003 Audi A6 does NOT.

The CC is easy to use and maintains speed very accurately when going uphill. I should be hitting 125k miles around 2027 so I'll deal with the issue then.
