Crossfire purchase??
Hello All,
Thinking of buying a 2005 Crossfire Limited convertible. Car has 25,500 miles on it. Clean car fax. Looks like it was a lease. It's at a Chrysler dealer. I have done some research but is there any major issues I should look for when buying. Dealer wants $16,550. Seems reasonable. This is a third car. Wife will drive daily. I just want to have a fun car in the garage again. Missing my G35 and my 4runner and wifes / kids 08 Pathfinder are not cutting it in the realm of fun. Is there any special warranty I should ask dealer for.
I've seen the threads about asking for oil change and all the small things people gripe about with these cars. Just asking if there are any major things to look for? I live in FL so I'm not concerned about rust. And due to the fact I live in FL I should have a convertible.

As much as I hate to say it (owning two crossfires now) that seems high for what these are going for today
example recently here in Atlanta a 2005 SRT repeat SRT convertible went
for $19,500 with less than 5000 miles true while this is an absolute steal
in this case the Ltd convertible with your milage should go in the 12 to 13K
range other members might agree or disagree one suggustion is to have the dealer furnish you with the 7 year 100,000 mi bumper to bumpter warrantee which would cost you $2500 plus /minus but not him they come $0 deductible, $50 and $100 hold out for the zero the others are several hundred dollars cheaper this is actually 4 years and 64,000 mile added to the basic warrantee with that $16,500 would be a fair price to you but not great

There have been a few reports on here of the rear glass separating from the top. Up to now, no one has reported that there is a glue that will hold the window in place. The only fix is a whole new top. This only happens in high heat areas such as southern Florida so make sure that the top is in good shape. Hopefully it won't happen to you.
Check out every option and button and make sure everything works -- even the seat heaters although you may not need them (hah - south FL winter nights feel mighty cold with the humidity). Take your time and try everything out. With 25k miles, you may be getting close to needing new rubber - check the tire tread and negotiate accordingly.
The price doesn't sound too out of line if it's the package and color you want. Roadsters are more popular in FL and this is the time of year to buy one. If you can keep it garaged, I suggest leaving the top down all the time to reduce wear-and-tear on the mechanism and buy an inexpensive car cover to keep the dust out.

Thanks for all the help. I found and drove another last night. Has 14,000 mile on it. It's an 05, tires still good. Everything works. There is one little issue though. Car was bought in 06 and was a rental for 7 months. I've been told by the Chrysler Dealer that this voids the remaining warranty. Then it was bought by someone that owned it for the last 1 year and 8 months. This one is at MB dealership. Looks to be in really good condition. Drove perfect. The warranty thing is bothering me though. I can buy 6 year 60K bumper to bumper warranty for $2,6000. Will this cover the roof and everything? Dealer wants $16,900 for car. Looking at auto trader that is pretty much the average asking price for this year and model. Just curious what others here think?
I'm surprised about the warranty issue. My 05 also was a rental from Alamo. I've had no problem getting the warranty work done (just seat heaters and a dome light repair and I got the car with those problems) and I still have 3 months left on the original warranty as my car's in service date was 10/06. I also have the extended warranty as these cars are not cheap to fix. But then, I bought my car from a Chrysler dealer so that may have had something to do with it. They might be a little more liberal with those things than an outside dealer. Also, many people here have tried to have their cars serviced at a Mercedes dealer since the car IS a Mercedes mechanically and all have been refused. Find out their policy before you plunk down any dough.
Thanks again guys. The black on black one at carmax with 12k sounds like the base model they sold in 2005. It's more money, only 2000 less mile than the one i looked at last night, and 1000 miles away. Thanks for the heads up though.
I got my warranty info from the guy at the chrysler dealer while inquireing about one on their lot. I asked about current / extended warranty and that is when he told me of the rental issues. With your extended warranty did you get that through chrysler? How much extra? Anything else i should know.
Thanks again!

I believe the original warranty can only be transferred to the second owner. The third owner, as I am of my Crossfire, can not be transferred. I tried several times with no luck.

I bought our second Crossfire which is a SRT-6 roadster for 16,250 in GA at the first of March this year, it did have 43,000 on the clock but was in super great shape.
Whatever you get, I strongly recommend the Chrysler Extended Warranty. I just had my supercharger replaced and it would have cost $6K plus, my cost $0. While mine was in for service, I noticed another SRT6 they had in service. The service manager said it was sitting completed for almost 2 weeks waiting for a check from a 3rd party warranty.
