Thanks for your reply. I must admit that the specifics you mentioned, I didn't understand what it meant. Something you mentioned dealt w/better gas mileage, would be interested in understanding that more. This is a new venture for me and definitely out of character, so I have a few questions. How do I know if the car I'm looking at is a limited, roadster, sr6, etc??? Are there any known downfalls to that year of crossfire?? Anything I need to pay close attention to? There is one in my area that has been on a dealers lot for approx 2 mos. and am concerned why it hasn't sold? Also, is it my imagination that red ones are hard to come by? Would love to have red convertible w/white interior. Will look forward to your response. Debby

Red face Re: wanting to buy '05 convertible-help!!

Hi Deb! Don't listen to them! Graphite roadsters are the fastest and evryone knows it lol! Seriously though, open the boot and look carefully around the catch handle underneath as they are prone to corrosion. Check the seal around the rear window and if it's an auto, check that the gear box oil and flter have been changed around 37500 miles if it's done that many miles - I take mine to an ex-mercedes guy who now has his own merc centre and he strongly recommends doing it earlier rather than the 80000 it says in the owners manual and as it's a mercedes gearbox I'm inclined to go with his words of wisdom as he's never diddled me in the past. I am in love with mine and i'm sure you will love yours too. Hope this helps! PS, I agree with the first post - I wish i'd gone for the SRT too!

I'm new here as well and I too am looking for a nice 05 or so roadster limited/auto.

I found this site to be helpful. Lots of info. Happy hunting.

No Deb you're in the right place ! If what you are looking for is a convertible Roadster....Although this tread is more barging rights...Black, Blue, Red, Slate Grey is better....but you're pretty much on target.

The more treads you read the more informed you become about the cars. There's the base model, you can spot it pretty quick, there is NO chrome (although painted and not really chrome) looking strip around the wind shield - the base unit will not have this . Then there's the step up - the Limited Addition version with the Chrome Looking Window dressing (don't get me wrong there are other settle differences btwn the base and Limit but from the "street view" that's what will stand out)...then there is the CREAM of the CROP....the SRT model !! SRT's are the most valued model you'll see in any of the forums. They are hard to find (limited in production) and are the HIGH PERFORMANCE end of the Crossfire model. The SRT is easy to spot , the back spoiler is HARD FIXED..mounted on the back. The Limit and the base units have the air foil that "pops up" when the car reaches 100klm ..basically 62 mhp. The car comes with both manual and automatic...depends on your flavor or driving. There is a tread on here that folks sell..and buy their cars to member before they'll put them out there for the public..they are comfortable knowing the car wil be well cared for so you'll find postings on here before they hit the "common market".

You and Bob will NOT find a better Forum anywhere ...these folks are special..sure they joke and horse around a bit but if you ask a question or have a problem with anything... from how to change a light bulb to how do I step up the POWER of the car or recommended tires......this is the place to ask !!!! I bought my Base Model Roadster back 3 years ago..these folks have nothing short of FANTASTIC in just about any question or recommendation they could offer.
They have "get togethers"...I'll call it short of CLUBS...but enjoy the car.

IN SHORT...fear not...ask away !! If you are in the wrong tread...you won't be the FIRST...that's for sure and you'll get a "nudge" to the right one from someone on here. No fears...

You find one you can afford I'll highly recommend you drive it...I mean drive it !! like you stole it !!! and come to your own option. As you read on in other forums there are folks selling their PORCH in the pursuit of finding a Crossfire (that's not a joke !! ).

I'm a bit bias...because I own one...but it's the most UNDER RATED Sports car that's ever hit the market and the folks that find them and drive them....TAKE THEM HOME. Hands down the most fun I can have outside of the bed room.

Unless you really want a high performance version (330 hp SRT6) of the Crossfire, stick with the limited (215 hp). One is govered to 150 mph, the other to 158. I am biased against the base -- besides the "chrome surround" on the front windshield you also get heated leather seats, better speakers, optional two-tone seats, and a couple other upgrades I cannot recall on the limited. The car was essentially manufactured in 2005 with the same car built in 2006 and 2007 and then sold into 2009. But no body, engine, or drive train changes. There is a dead pedal in the 2007s and I think the hinge on the glove box changed. Your choice on non-SRT6s is manual 6-speed or 5-speed auto "slap stick". The latter is all that comes on the SRT6. You should be able to find a range of exterior colors, two-tone interiors (no white, but I think there is a cream and something), sticks or autos, and mileage from next to nothing all the way over 100k. Start doing internet searches to get an idea of what is available and price. Then ask someone on the forum to check it out for you -- there is an owner almost everywhere and they are all eager to help a future member.

Here's a search for Roadsters in your area. Tweek the search area to 200 miles for more choices.

Deb,
Here's what happened w/ mine: I bought my '05 SRT6 roadster exactly one year ago this Saturday; my wife drove it home, I got to drive it on Sunday (top down of course!) and I left Monday for TX. On Thursday I found out my wife had been driving it all week - when asked about it, her reply was "You need to buy another one!"
I got pretty lucky on mine - '05 SRT6 w/ 14,615 miles for just under $20K; I've seen regular roadsters going for the same $, so I can't complain.
The SRT6 is the "hotrod" of the group; ~350 hp out of a supercharged V6, and boy is it fun! What it isn't though is my daily driver (or hers!), but a limited may be a good option if the weather is cooperative where you're at.

I think one of the reasons they never caught on is that it is such a "uniquely styled" vehicle, and it's not for everyone - my wife won't even consider a XC coupe.
As for issues, I've had none, but I only have 22K on mine.

Hope this helps!
KevinL

I just remembered I saw one in Myrtle Beach last month, and it looks like they still have it: North Myrtle Beach Chevy | Jud Kuhn Chevrolet | New and used Cars Trucks SUVs
They also had a Viper SRT-10 (just looking honey, honest!) AND a Prowler when I drove by.
I also saw one in Elizabethton, TN in August at a used car dealer, but can't remember the name.

Welcome Deb,

This is a fun group, you can't go wrong with a Crossfire and this group to support you. They are always ready with tips and help when needed.

Somewhere in this forum is a thread that listed all the unique things that come on a Crossfire. Believe me it's quite a full list of items. Like the heater that stays on for a short time when the key is off. Good for the passenger when refueling in cold weather or a quick run into a store. The radio stays on too. Then there are the heated seats, individual heater controls, a very good factory sound system, automatic spoiler deployment (that's spoiler, not parachute). The only negatives so far is that it is governed back to 150 mph and the dreaded CUP HOLDER! If you have time, a lot of time, search for the cup holder remarks!Boy do we hate that thing!

But the best thing of all is...Mercedes drivetrain and reliability at far less than Mercedes price. It's a secret we like to keep.

Welcome,
Richard B.

I have an '05 roadster red, limited, only problem has been with the alarm system, had to replace the noise maker box under the crowl (sp) now it chirps when armed and disarmed, didn't do that before.
pictures are on the forum and my facebook, www.facebook.com/rwdesrosiers

It's not a "problem". The newer alarms included the "chirp" feature. Now you don't have to do the https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...lert-tone.html mod!
