Default Top up / down switch

The switch on my car pushed through the console. I got the silver cover pulled up enough to grab the switch. Looks like the front plastic tab is broke off on the switch. Won't snap back in. Dealer says the only way to fix is a whole new center console at $1,200. I have serious doubts about this information.

Dealers are so full of Sh&% it's not funny , get your car away from those nuts as soon as possible.guarantee they will screw something else up while trying to fix a simple switch replacement...

If the switch pushed through the console, then it is not "part of the console". After all, my coupe does not have this switch. There has to be a part for it. You may have to visit a Mercedes dealer. Another option is to try and glue it back somehow.

buy the quick top switch from Rudy. I bought one but have not installed yet. You can have it here in two to threedays. Do a search on the " Quick top switch" it has a video of the install, etc. Cost like $70 and works better than original.

I don't believe Rudy's Quick Top Switch provides a replacement switch. It is a module that installs inside the console and is wired into the existing switch.

glue?.........don't know how bad it is broken, but if you can retrieve the piece... You wouldn't need a console unless the piece you broke were part of the console...then, they would be right. There are a few for sale time to time on here...just keep reading and looking...

My advice is to buy the switch from Mopar.
Get a module from Rudy (about $70.00) and find a shop to install the parts.

Any good shop that does interior work like tinting, stereos, etc, they should be able to open console and install all parts...

But you do not need a new console do not let the dealer take your money...

The forum has may people here to help you thru this, your baby needs care and the dealer see only checkbooks and invoices....

Take some detailed photos and send them to Rudy. You will get a straight answer. If you are coming to the Dragon Rudy will be there.

Like oledoc says, it may not be that the switch is broken, but more likely the socket tabs in the console that retain the switch in place.

So the the OP, do a little more poking around before you haul off and buy a new switch. Or a new console. Need more 411.

Thanks everyone. Never going to pay the dealer for that. I'm thinking some superglue will due the trick.

My 240lb. 6'2" former NFL linebacker husband has problems getting into my Crossfire. Over the summer he leaned onto the console with his elbow for support, pushing the convert top switch down into the "abyss". When I saw your posting, I was really afraid to hear what the dealer would quote for repair (I knew that my switch was not damaged). Quoted price, no parts required, but 2 hours labor, was $220.00. I am in Northern VA area.

The tab broke off my switch the other night and the whole thing fell inside the console. I just went looking for a replacement and found one at factorychryslerparts.com for $110. The for kicks I checked FactoryMoparParts.com. They have them for $27.95 plus shipping.

All those switches in the center console just mount into plastic clips. I have dislodged the Mirror adjustor and the top switch. Both just snapped back in, though I used a little trim adhesive on the mating faces for stability.

Total repair cost for both? $3.75 and a little of my time.

And eventually those plastic clips get brittle and break apart. Which is why I ended up having to buy a whole new switch. I've managed to keep them all intact up until the other night when I replaced the cup holder with a bin. The tabs broke off of the top up/down switch. I suspect my passenger side window switch is going to be the next one to go.
