Cool top flap cable

First, I been reading this forum for a couple months and finally joined. this is a great site, with a lot of very good information. thanks Crossfire. org. and everyone on here.
i have had my crossfire for about 6 months, and initially had an issue of the top not working. resolution was easy. lowered it manually, now it works great. but... found two minor problems.
1 the flap cable (driver side) is broken. expensive at dealer. it appears that it is a 10 speed bike brake cable. Does anyone know if i could use that to replace the original? it sure would be cheaper if it would work, and it sure looks the same.
2, when the top started working, found a cloth cable on drivers side at the front of the top appears to be loose. i am not sure what it is for or what to do with it. but i would like to put it. back like it is supposed to be, but dont know where it is supposed to go or what to do with it.

If the ten speed cable is the exact length, the housing is the exact length and the ends are the same diameter/width, then I don't see why it wouldn't work. As to the cloth cable you mentioned - pictures please.

The pic below is the cable I was talking about.
This is on the driver side, The cable is somehow connected to the roof,
I just cant figure out where the end should be attached to.

That appears to be a tension cord that runs from the front header to the middle bow just under the nylon strap on both sides. Look at the passenger side and you will see how it attaches.

( It is riveted at the middle bow and attaches to a tension spring at the front )
