traveling on the auto train
If you have the time, take the train every time. Murfi and I take two long distance trips a year on AMTRAK to see our kids in Manhattan, NYC. We get on the sleeper in South Carolina, wake up to breakfast outside Washington and glide into Penn Station in time for lunch in mid town with the kids! Grandkids love it as well. Roomette, excellent meals in the full service diner and all the snacks, coffee and juices you can hold. A newspaper too all included in sleeper ticket.
Did I mention actually SEEING the beautiful scenery through a picture window in your own room? The whole thing operates at a huge loss, so I'm getting my tax money back for the price of a single airline ticket and a relaxing trip. AND when the airports are closed by weather the train is almost always still running on schedule. I've had very good experiences on The Silver Meteor; The Southern Crescent. Usually get in within 30 minutes of the advertised. Will be VERY interested in how your trip goes sgthied.
