Default starting to have some top problems

I'll call the dealer when I get a chance but has anyone else had a problem pulling the top down and latching it after the power mechanism has finished closing cycle? At least 50% of the time I cannot pull it down to latch. I don't want to force it so I run it through another top down then back up cycle. sometimes this does it and sometimes not. Anyone have similar problems?

Leave the top down or throw away, and buy a coupe for those rainy days.

I think you have to pull down pretty hard when you latch it close. It always seems to slam when I do it, but seems ok.

Bill. Are you turning the release handle as you are pulling the top down to close? The first week or so after I had my car I was not turning the handle and found it more difficult to close and when it finally did it would slam down with a hard metallic thud. If you are turning the handle then you probably have another problem. Let us know if there is some other problem.

Yes, you are right, it does take a fairly hard pull to bring it down. I have been on the verge of breaking or bending the top frame if I use any more pull than I have been using. This is definitely not right, however it does not happen every time the top is deployed.
I do like the suggestion of leaving it down and buying a spare coupe for those rainy days, and at the discounted prices I'm seeing, it just might fly with the wife.

I had problems the first time but none since. Or course I've only had the car 4 days. The one thing that worries me is the big CLUNK it makes when it first starts going down. Does everyones CLUNK?

Yes, I have been turning it. I did notice this morning that if I give the frame a push upwards just above my left shoulder while I pull down the handle it drops to the windshield very nicely. This is telling me there may be an adjustment of some kind that can be tweaked. I just don't have time right now to get it in for a tech to check it out. I won't be back in the town until mid Sept and then I'll take it in and will let the group know what is going on.

I believe so, that loud clunk is a little scary. I have doubts as to this configuration making it through the life of the warrantee. That is why I took out the extra coverage which they assured me would cover any top issues after the original coverage had expired. Like i mentioned before, the BMW Z4 top , although not nearly as attractive, is superior in operation. Someone at the factory needs to take a good look at the machanics of their top.
Having said this, I love my roadster!!!

Default Top Problems

:? My XFIRE from the day I purchased it, the top was hard to get down and the loud noise when you first put it down is the locks un locking. Yes I have found by pushing up on the channel on the left it closes very easily. I have lubed all the moving parts on the channels but to no avail. I am still afraid to bring it back to the dealer because I don't think that they have any knowledge of the cars at all and might mess it up more. The dealers know nothing about this tpye of top, especially the ones on LONG ISLAND. At present they have only sold 4 roadsters.

The first few times I put the top up, I too had the loud metal-on-metal THUD/CLANK. Shortly thereafter instead of just pulling the latch down sharply, I guide it down slowly with my hand and voila, a soft (but firm) landing every time. Even though the hard close seems like the right thing to do, I suspect its not.

PhillyXFire, you're probably right. I guess I'll have to work on my tricepts a little so I can "guide it down slowly with my hand and viola" also have a "soft (but firm) landing every time.) !!

You may have something here, I've been more conscience about how far I turn the handle and it may be the problem.Since your post regarding turning it all the way, I've had no problems with it. The forum solves another problem!!!
Thanks
