Default loweringtop

on my newly purchased '05 roadster, the initial unlocking of the hard tonneau cover is accompanied by a loud clunk...seems unlikely that German engineering would allow this, but...if the cover is being pulled down too tightly on closing, is it adjustable?

Probably just the latch unlocking the rear of the top.

Mine has always had a hard clunk when unlocking, even after I went at it with white lithium grease.

I got worried about it too the first few times but in the nearly seven years that I have mine it's never not worked right.

The latch itself is pretty much bullet proof. The cylinder in it will leak eventually, but that's a different story. The clunking noise in the latch might be amplified somehow by the way the latch is mounted.

I always brace the top with my free hand when opening or closing, so it does not pop up hard or slam down. Other than that, I don't think it has an abnormally loud noise when I turn the latch. Of course, I go topless most of the summer so it is not exercised very much.

I think they're referring to the rear locking mechanism. Mine was always loud.
