Talking Still going Strong

Been a long time since I've been here. Several years ago I was one of the lucky ones who was able to purchase a new 2006 Roadster Limited in 2008.

Crossfires were not selling well, Steve White Motors in NC had over 25 new ones for sale on Ebay at half price with free delivery this side of the Mississippi. When I jumped there were 3 left, I had my pick of colors, black, black, or black. I took the black one with cedar interior.

I pounced as they were selling fast. I also was able to purchase a lifetime warranty for I think $1,300.00.

Still have the car, it's been in the rain maybe 4 times since I purchased it. Garaged each winter. Has 22,250 miles as of the last gas tank.

Runs like the day I bought it.

I've had one issue with it, covered by warranty; the head gaskets both sides have been replaced twice. That's it.

Well, last summer 2013 I took it in leaking in May to do the gaskets for a 2nd time. My dealership finally fixed the issue in August after 6 attempts.

So, not all was rosy but that was not the cars fault. The dealer could not get it right. The first attempt they pinched the gasket. I drove about 15 miles on I70 and when I exited to a stop light the car was smokin; bad. Pulled over and oil saw sprayed everywhere. I had them flat truck it back to the dealership and a 3 month nightmare began.

I'll make a very long story short. The 6th time they finally determined that the valve covers were bad. There are welds that can go bad in them and they did. The dealer was great but kept telling me there was nothing wrong. I knew better because I could not drive 20 miles without smoke poring out. The weld leaks were so small and sprayed such small amounts it left no oil behind. Burned right off.

So much for a short story. To finish it, I watched my dealer patronize me, nicely, while submitting warranty claims to Chrysler for 5 repairs they should not have been paid for.

BUT, I love this car. Wish the resale value was better but I would still have it anyway. It's a blast to drive. The craftsmanship is top notch. It's as tight as the day I bought it.

Just replaced for the first time tires with Nitto Motivo. They are smooth riding and have a 60,000 mile warranty. Highly recommended. One thing, if you get them I think you can up size them by one. The rims look wider than the stock Contis.

Have I mentioned I love this car.

Thanks for the update, like you I have a black roadster but unlike you I came to the party much more recently. I purchased mine February of 2013 with 36,000 miles, so far it has performed flawlessly and like you I love it. I have an independent garage that I trust with my vehicles that claims to work on any make or model and I have seen several MB on their lot so hopefully they will be able to handle any problem that may pop up. Now that you are back stick around become more active, your ownership insight can only help other going forward.

I owned two at the same time, an 07 & an 08. Both were purchased new. Around 2010-2011 I decided to take the 07 in for the tiny leak around the valve covers. The official Chrysler fix (under warranty) for the 07 was to replace the valve covers. On the 08 it was just gasket replacement. Same dealership......about a month apart.

Did you by chance make it to our Crossfires of Maryland Auto Show on Saturday? It was at the Linganore winery in Mt. Airy. If not, hope you can next year. Also, you should check out our regional Club. We are small, but very active. I live in Damascus, and am in Mt. Airy regularly. If interested, we could meet up, introduce ourselves and I could tell you more about our Maryland Club. Let me know. A few of us are actually going to the Ghost Ryder meet up at Adams county winery next weekend if you are intersted.
