Roof up of course!

I was thinking that if the canvas can take 150mph winds, it should be OK with the brushes at a car wash.

I'm sure it would be okay...but you should NEVER take a car through a car wash with brushes anyways...it wrecks havoc on your paint!!!

I wash mine at home...but I did take it to a wash once - it's okay but make sure it is a 100% hand wash, NO BRUSHES in sight!! Mine had to be washed by hand anyways because of the wheels...no rails/tracks for my car!

Automatic car washes in the UK are a bit more gentle than the American ones.

Anybody been through a UK one?

I'm not bothered about the paint scratching - I have always had a perfectly good wash.

I'm just a little unsure about the soft top.

Just took mine in last week. It had no brushes however it did leak in the inside. Water built up in the track of the top, (the area where the metel folds when you put the top down). I dont think I will do that again.

I would be more worried about what might be trapped in the brush scratching my car, and not the brushes themselves. I have a friend who took his car through an automatic carwash and there was a piece of barb wire stuck in the brush that must have come out of the previous vehicle. It wasn't a pretty site.

I took my crossfire through a car wash, the type with the tracks and nylon wheels and it did just fine.
In fact, I couldn't get the young guys working on it to stop cleaning and taking turns getting behind the wheel! Thought they would vacuum the carpet right out of it!

The nylon wheels were touching the car but with a mixture of soap and water being sprayed into them. it also had the "Dancing Cloth Strips" section of the car wash that it went through and then spray rinse and blow dried. After which this car wash hand
dried and did a quicky detail. I would'nt have done this except I've seen other luxury cars go through this car wash and figured if it was good enough for them then, why not. And I was very satisfied with the job they had done plus it was only 41 degrees here in Virginia Tidewater Area which I know is nothing to ***** about in February!

I got my Roadster on January 24 and have had it through the car wash five times since then (two different car washes). Hey, I live in NJ, and February wasn't a good month, weather-wise--and I can't exactly be washing the car myself in 30-degree weather.

No problems. Of course, this is my third convertible (though this is the nicest I've ever had), so I didn't have a minute of hesitation. I just take the advice the VW dealer gave me for my Cabrio: just get the basic wash, as you obviously don't want wax on the cloth roof, and take off the antenna first.

It's not hand wash, either. Brushless, but automated. No scratches, looks good.

The winters in Michigan are pretty brutal too. I guess if I lived in an apartment, I'd try to suck-up to a friend that had a hose and a driveway. I don't drive the Crossfire in the winter, so I don't worry too much about washing it, just dust it off every now and then. But we have other cars that we drive, and a hot and cold hose spicket in the garage so I can wash them here in the winter if I want. Last time I washed the 300 it was 17 degrees outside, but not too windy. The warm water works really well and just soapy water with it gets all the salt off, makes it look really shiny. The only problem is that when it gets driven the next day, it comes back looking just like before I washed it.

Dan, if you lived in Michigan, I bet you would have to use a hose!

Tell me about it! Our natural gas bill was $300 for the 3rd month in a row now, and that's not counting the propane for the other garage, or the electricity. March 1st and it's 19 degrees out and the wind chill is 4. I don't think this winter is ever going to end!!
But hey, the air conditioners are getting a rest!

Unhappy Re: Has any body taken their Roadster through a car wash?

I wont be taking mine through a car wash in the UK or anywhere else.

My Jeep got scratched twice by 2 different automatic car washes and all the guy in the service station said was your not meant to take 4x4s through did you not read the sign.

The sign was minute and inside one of these washers that close the door infront and behind you and dont even look at the sign untill the things already started.
