Got a question on these. My 2006 coupe TPS light is one and all the tires are at good pressure, so I assume one of the sensors has gone bad. Is there anyway to pinpoint which one has gone bad? Or do I need to have each tire removed from the rim and the sensors replaced? Thanks for any suggestions.

 

There is no way to isolate which one went bad, but if one did, the other three aren't far behind.

 

I thought that the instrument to set the sensors could also find the one not sending a signal, am I wrong?
Mind you I do agree with the one has failed so replace all of them philosophy.

 

Well yea, but if you don't already own one of those magic boxes, why would you pay a shop an exorbitant fee to find the failing one when you know good and well you are gonna have to have all four replaced anyway.
Or just simply disable the receiver like many have done, and go old school on maintaining the proper inflation.

My tire shop had a hand held sensor that they placed near the sensor and found out it was front passenger sensor battery was dead.
Our style is sealed, he told me they have had some they took the sensors out and put a regular valve stem in and customer took home, broke them apart and changed the batteries, some reseal ed case back together, some don't, and when it was time to rotate the tires, they reinstalled sensors with new batteries.
The tire stores that give free lifetime rotation when buying tires from them, they know my tires have to be unmounted flipped and remount ed and balanced, when I go to that shop, I do not get charged.

 

I went on amazon and got external tpms they are valve caps, and a display inside that shows pressure, temperature and battery info for each sensor.
When tire is low, it had a alarm that goes off.

This style of sensor also works great for trailers, some might need a booster so they can read signal from farther back.
Some are even set up as much for a semi and trailer and has sensors and display for each truck and trailer tire.

 

I have a great relationship with the Xfire tech at the stealership and he used the magic wand and walked around the car and told me which wheel had the weakest signal at no charge probably because I was having the tranny flushed and refilled which is not a cheap date. Disabling the light is not a bright option on any car without a spare tire imho

 

I always use America's Tire.
They have a hand held device that reads the stem.
Located mine, yanked it out and rebuilt.
Did all 4 for $60.00 include battery.
I have used America's Tire for 30+ years.
They match any other price.

 

They rebuilt the OEM sensors ?

Did they put a battery in each or just one?
You say 'it' so I guess it was for just one, could you clarify please?

On my suggestion Arado took one apart and exposed the battery which was a commonly available one. He said it was not worth the effort and left it at that. If you get that changing the battery and repotting it should be easy enough.

 

$60.00 for all four
Rebuilt kit used on each one with new battery for each one.
Was not gonna no a 1/2 as job.
Not worth it in the long run.

 

I always thought these were sealed units. How did they replace the batteries ?
( I understand the 'rebuild kit' - that's just new gaskets and stuff around the valve stem )

 

That I don't know.
Went and had coffee while they did the job.

isn't it bad for the tire to flip them from left to right? What I read on some forums is once the tire spins one way, it should keep spinning that way. I don't know if it is true or not, I am just wondering...
