Default Crossfire in 2006???

Hi Folks...
New here and my first post as well. F.Y.I. ... I got me the Crossfire bug. When they came out as Coupes I went and checked em' out and lost interest from that point on as I was ultimately interested in a drop top. Now they've gone and done it and I gotta have me one. Looks like it'll be summer before I can swing one and I'm wondering if there's even gonna be a 2006 Model. I know Chrysler's contracted with Karmann but what's your opinion? With these things being softer than fresh baked bread, does anyone here think there will even be a 2006??? No Sign on the DC Website. Any and all opinions are welcome. Oh...and yeah, thanks for having this cool forum to feed my Jones till I can get my toy.

IN fact, there is a new "Special Edition" version of the roadster for 2006. 2006 is pretty much a done deal, as I am sure 2006 cars are being offloaded from boats as we speak.

You've got to remember, the model year changeover in the car business is around July (at the assembly plants). By spring time, most 2006 models have already hit the lots. The only exception would be a mid-year introduction, but that is usually only done if the model is new or significantly revised and an additional amount of months are needed to wrap up engineering or tooling.

Omissions of '06 MY cars on the web or in dealer advertising materials probably is the result of three things:

1) No significant changes to the lineup from 2005 to 2006 model year (aside from the aforementioned color/ trim variation).
2) Low sales volume = not the highest priority for marketing dollars.
3) Marketing budget seemingly spent on ridiculous incentives to clear out leftover 2005 Crossfires.

Thanks... It's good to know there'll be a 2006. Looks like I'm gonna end up caught in the Squeeze though. By the time I can get it this May, all the 05's will probably be gone and the 06' won't have the discount I'm looking for so I'll have to wait again until November of 06'. Anyways, thanks. That helps me plan what I want to do. Anyone know what this Special Edition's supposed to have working for it?

If I recall, the Special Edition is a special deep red color, has the SRT wheels, and the windshield surround/ other minor trim is black instead of silver. In other words, it's a hodgepodge of various parts from already existing Crossfires (nothing really new).

Chances are, there will still be new 2005 cars on the lots when you are ready to buy. My 2005 Coupe sat on the lot of literally hundreds of days before I snapped it up at a great discounted price. And, keep in mind that a Crossfire Roadster can be had new or nearly new for $26-27K in base form (down from the mid-30K range), if you buy on e-Bay, through "overstock.com", and sometimes through the dealer down the street if you haggle hard enough. The base car is not really that "base". It still comes with the important stuff: great seats, ESP, ABS, the same wide wheels and tires, same great V6, six-speed manual trans, etc. Omissions are mostly in the creature comfort and trim details - cloth instead of leather, a few less cargo nets inside, absence of silver on the side strakes and windshield surround, less wattage from stereo. You'll still get the full-fledged Crossfire experience on the back roads, but perhaps with a bit less coddling. But, judging by the stares my black coupe gets with a fresh coat of wax, you'll get the same level of attention!

I sat in the regular coupe with no power seats and really, really, hated the view over the hood. In spite of the fact that I'm 6 foot with a long torso, I really didn't feel I could see the corners of the car. I assume the power seats will allow me to lift high enough to have a better vantage point of all four corners of the car. Not to mention I'm really stuck on that black/gray leather combination. Probably in the red or the blue exterior. She really seems to have a lot of eyeball in those two colors. Anyways...it's good to hear you think some of the 2005s will still be around at that point in time. I'm maxed out at about $33,000 - $34,000 Out the Door with tax and License included. If I can get there or under I'm sure I'll be an owner. Sure seems to be a whole lot of car for that kind of scratch. I just don't know how I can pass it up. Even if it's older technology I don't mind and I'm more interested in handling than speed. 215 ponies looks like an ample amount of juice @ 3,300 lbs. considering the torque figures and where she makes her power. Not to mention the lower horsepower rating should translate into a less likely chance of engine problems.
I was considering the S2000, but around town drivability looks like a drag with its torque numbers. If you can't wring the **** out of it, it's basically just a 2 seat Accord. I need something that corners well and has some grunt off the line. This thing looks like it fits the bill. Not to mention it's absolutely gorgeous!

More 2006 Press:

"Unfortunately for Chrysler, sales of the hot-looking Crossfire have yet to meet expectations. While its original annual U.S. sales target was 20,000 units, the car sold only 14,969 units in 2004 and 10,276 units through the end of August 2005 (though this represents 166 units more than were sold during the same period the previous year). Chrysler group executives are reportedly weighing the vehicle's future, specifically whether the Crossfire will eventually be redesigned and built in the U.S. or whether it will be scrapped altogether when its assembly contract with Karmann expires in 2010.

Meanwhile, the Crossfire continues for 2006 with a new Special Edition package available on the roadster that includes a number of exclusive trim items. These include an Inferno Red Crystal Pearl Coat paint treatment and Dark Slate Gray cloth seats, cast-aluminum wheels, a black windshield surround and satin silver door handles and side louvers. The vehicle otherwise remains unchanged, save for the addition of two new exterior colors, Oyster Gold Crystal Metallic and Machine Gray Crystal Pearl Coat. The SRT6 models now feature a body-color windshield surround."
