That makes two of us! I was i little pissed when I got home, popped the engine cover and found nothing underneath! What really gets me is that here they are pitching it as a hand built AMG engine, "look, here is the craftsman who built it" at the shows and then give you an incomplete product in the end. I mean common, what's it cost them to solder the plate on?

With the ugly cover on the SRT no one would see it (unless they removed it) even if they put one on there. A junk yard will be your best bet since I've tried to contact a few companies that I've bought parts for my M.B. from and it seems no one is even able to get a blank one...

Debate? I'm confused.

There is a process to obtain a signature plate, one I documented in another recent thread.

Basically, have $100 and a VIN on the ready. Contact a MB dealership that sees only dollar-signs, and request the favor.

Part number is 000 221 12 01

Two things:
  • There's absolutely no way to verify who built the motor, so there's a good chance you'll have the wrong name
  • Only a handful of people in this world will give a crap.
You will see one or two purists that will throw a b!tch fit because the name isn't accurate, and that's perfectly fine, seeing as the badgeless motor is technically inaccurate in it's own right (no badge = a ghost built it?). The other 99% of people will look at it and take it as exactly what it is: a nod to the motor's heritage. Most of the signatures are borderline illegible anyways

I haven't bought the name plate yet, but it doens't mean that I won't. Currently there are simply better things I can spend $100 on. But, if you find one in good condition for cheaper at a salvage yard, go for it.

I don't care who built it. If it breaks I will fix it. Gary

There is a thing called elbow grease that will clean your engine up really nice. It will take you a couple of hours, but you can do it..... lol

I think the most interesting aspect (re: the missing AMG badge) would be to know why it was decided that our cars would not receive the AMG badge. I can imagine that Mercedes agreed to let Chrysler use the SLK32 standalone engine for events to promote the SRT-6 but, at the end of the day, when it came to manufacturing the vehicles, Mercedes told Chrysler to f*#! off if they actually thought they could use the AMG badge on the Chryslers out of the factory. That's just my guess how it went down.

You can get a custom one from SparkySRT6 he has a little elf from the Black Forest making plates like this in his basement.
Maybe they are not actually hand built anyway and just use the same parts. I don't care my car is not an AMG anyway.
