Thought I would drop a quick note seeking advice for a new SRT-6 owner. I'm a proud owner of a black SRT-6, with very low miles and got a sweet deal. Any advice for first 1,000 miles of operation, advanced detailing care, expected maintenance jobs, etc., will be appreciated. Thanks much and I look forward to reading the forums!

It's already past the 1,000 mile break-in, so others have already done broke it no doubt. It's spring, wind it up... Of course, you will have to fill the tank with $3.55 gas (currently), depending upon your location. Too bad it's too small in the cabin to have cowboy-bronco-like sex in and console between seats is too high to lean over... So, ya, just drive it like you stole it... Put the top down if you got a rag top. If you are purist, you can "clay-bar" the exterior with Mothers' Clay bar... Takes away paint imperfections and lays down a real polish. So, do that, then after it's all shiny, bend your girl over the car and have the sex you couldn't inside. Be careful she doesn't slide off from the clay-bar gloss ... Then don't forget to clean up... The car and her, that is.

Yea, just keep your foot out of it for the first 500 - 1,000 miles. Give us some details on the car and the deal please!

 

Also got one about two months back. The car was used (and probably abused) as a Chrysler fleet car. About one year old with only 2k miles.

Detailed the car (of course). A clay bar is a good idea since many of these cars have been sitting on dealer lots for a looooong time. Also, pay attention to the rubber trim; especially in extreme climates, it may need to be reconditioned.

Depending on how many miles it has and how long it's been sitting around, an early oil change (at about the 1k mark) may be another good thing. I did so on mine and found out that the oil was totally black - so I'm glad I did. Now, if you thought that gas was expensive, wait 'til you buy 8.5 quarts of a special grade of Mobil 1 ... $120. I would like to hear about others' experiences with oil change costs.

Lastly, the car needed to have its driveshaft replaced. A $2,500 job done under warranty. Probably from early abuse, but should serve as a warning to others.

As with any supercharger or turbo, it's a good idea to let it idle for a minute to cool down before turning off the engine - especially when running hard.

That was a good piece of advice...my new car will have 122 miles on it. Black SRT-6, only used by the dealer...$29K. Checked VIN, CarFAx, etc., never titled, car in top top shape inside and out. Basically I got a sweet deal and expect delivery next week.

 

Good deal... You didn't by chance get that SRT-6 that was up on Ebay with Buy-it-Now for $27K did you, and then get tax/license, etc for the $29K total, did ya? $29K is still pretty good but someone got a screaming deal on Ebay last week, $26,895 out... I would have flown there for it and drove it back to break it in... and still walk away with $5,500 ahead.

 

No, it wasn't an Ebay car. I bought it out of Dallas, it's arriving tomorrow. Total in is going to be close to $31K with shipping, registration and NM taxes. Still a great deal and could probably make some money on the resale.

 

I just got mine last night. Picked up a Black SRT6 Roadster w/ 600 miles on it. Love the car, and it was worth the wait to be able to get one. I had the ability to race this exact car at the track as well, so I know what I'm gettin.

Love the car, but I think the wife loves it even more... So my chances of driving it are going to be slim to none methinks... hahaha

i just did my oil change the other day... paid about $50 dollars for the 8 quarts of 0w40 mobil 1 oil (took 7 quarts to bring it to proper level... checked after running it for a while... still at proper level) and the oil filter cost me $13 dollars at a local dodge dealer...

 

Took delivery this afternoon! BUT, the dealer never put temporary registration on it, so it's just sitting at work collecting more NM dust. They're sending it overnight fedex. I found one scratch on the right door that the dealer failed to disclose, never found before it left on the truck so it might be the responsibility of the shipping company instead. Nevertheless, looking forward to washing it and most importantly driving it!

 

i found a few minor scratches on my srt6 after the wax wore off after 3 three washes and i took it back to them and the repainted the whole panel for me. i also have free oil changes and tires for the life of the car...granted i have to pay for the dealer suggested maintenance, but that's not for a while down the road since the majority of tire rotations and what not aren't applicable on my car.

enjoy...i'll be on a thousand mile road trip this weekend just cruising along!!!

 

ouch... repainting... would have been a last resort for me on a new car.

i would have polished, compounded & wet sanded the crap out of the scratches before painting.

 

How did you manage to get free tires for the life of the car? Those are "wear items" and usually not covered anywhere... Expensive fricken tires, too. There must be a catch somewhere... Is it free tires every 80,000 miles or what? Even oil changes at (assuming at 7,500) is a pretty good deal. SRT-6 don't have the offering of the "service plans" like other Xfires.. at least ours didn't... Did you get a "service plan"? If so, and they do cover tires, it must have cost a small fortune.... Please explain further and what state/dealership offered this. Hope they make good on it...

 

It was just a local dealer thing...i take my car to the local dealer for ALL service...and they will give me free oil changes, car washes, and tires for the lifetime I own the car. In return i must pay for the suggested maintenance (ie every 30,000 miles engine flush/tranny fluid change which will run me a couple hundred bucks) and then the dealer will replace my tires with like or comparable Z rated tires. If i get my oil changed anywhere else, my plan is void...there's the catch...all the service has to be done there.

This was at LaBelle Chrylser Dodge Jeep in LaBelle, FL. My salesman was JD and i've bought 3 different cars from him...he's great! Just a good ole country boy!

The whole tires and oil change plan was FREE, with the catch as I elaborated on!!!

 

That may still not be too bad... Rear tires are $290 each which is about $600. Fronts are around $400 for 2... So, if you are hard on your tires, and they promised to replace them free, you get $1,000 every 25K miles. Seems like you still come out ahead on that deal... Too bad you're in FLA and I'm in CA... Would've gone for that.

 

my dealer will be lucky if i get 25k to a set of tires...
