'05 GTO...dusted
Forgive me for sounding like such a newbie, but sunday night I had my first real "street race" with a Pontiac GTO. Completely random guy pulled up beside me at 3:30 in the morning on a deserted 50 mph highway. First from a 30 ish MPH roll, then from a 5 mph roll we ran em, and both times I won. The first time by 1.5 car lengths, and the 2nd time by at least 2.
The guy had no idea what the difference between an SRT-6 and a stock Xfire was, and fully expected to win. At the end I could not help but telling him it was a stock crossfire (which is semi-true) and to go tell all the pontiac boys what just happened.
What a rush. This is my first sports car, and I think one could safely say I'm hooked.

Before we all go GTO hunting, beware. The '05s have the 350 hp v-8 from the c5 vettes. However, the '06s have the 400 hp engines from the c6 vettes. My friend has an '06 and they are no joke. You can spot the '06s by the hood scoops (the '05s did not have them) and dual exhaust.

My friend has the 400 GTO...No way I am gonna play with that...
Been next to it and been in it and drove it...I get him off the line and on the big end cause he won't drive as fast as me but once his tires hook up forget about it!
I am waiting for his new rims and slicks come in...I bet he can twist the hell out of it if it doesn't break first.
K.K.

The srt's aren't but dragtimes has stock and modified...was not saying it was the only resource...just sharing some info to be used at everyones leisure...
My opinion is that they are basically equal. GTO has more power but is heavier.
Usual time for a stock SRT6:
1/4 Mile ET: 13.200
1/4 Mile MPH: 108.120
1/8 Mile ET: 8.669
1/8 Mile MPH: 87.140
0-60 Foot ET: 2.070
Temperature F: 87.0

No real winner but would be fun to watch.

I used to own an '04 GTO with headers/exhaust/tune. The car could beat the '05 GTO with the LS2 by about a length all the time. I took it to the track and ran 13.6@99 mph. Traded that in on an Z06 which ran 12.6@113. IMHO the crossfire is right between those two cars. Most GTO guys are running mid to high 13's with there LS2's. If they get a good launch then lower 13's but those cars are not easy to launch. I think the SRT/6 should (stock for stock) be able to get an LS2 by 2-3 lengths with equal drivers.

you are just about right on the money from your seat of the pants 1/4 timer. Our cars, with a good driver usually run between a 13.1-13.3 at 105-107 MPH. There are a few mutants out there that have run a 12.99-13.0 bone stock, but those are rare. GTOs are no problem, hell WS6s, SS, Automatic Vettes and just about every Mustang that isn't blown will also fall victim and never know what hit them. Ain't it FUN!!!

Being a Pontiac fanatic (until they killed the bird and brought back the GTO all plain jane) I can tell you after driving the '04 with 350 hp and the '05 - '06 GTO with the 400 hp they both feel pretty fat and lazy which they are. If you could get the 400 to hook up it would easily run a 13.0 or faster. Most of the GTO drivers have not practiced enough and can get beat by a car like the SRT-6. Around here where I live they are almost as rare as the SRT-6. I've always wanted to race one.

I ended up next to a red light with a GTO the other day. No intention of racing him, but he gave me the look.
So I had to see what could happen. His tires were losing traction left and right when he was changing gears. I laughed and left him behind me. By the time he had caught up with me I had reached my turn. I am sure he could have taken me, if we kept going. LOL.

The GTO is a tank, it needs 400 hp just to move it! I smoked a impala ss, they have 303 hp. The SRT6 can beat alot of cars out there...
Being a former Pontiac guy I am a member of the GTO forum since 12-04. I was considering buying one at the time. I went on the site and gave them a link to here. Go check out what they are sayin.
