SRT-6 Turbo problem?
Hi all, I am considering to get a SRT-6 as the price seem very attractive for about $25,000 from Cars.com and Autotrader.com but read the Turbo seem to be a problem. Is it better to get a regular Crossfire then?
Thanks for any input.

what turbo? yea there is a problem with the turbo... no one supplies an aftermarket turbo for the N/A crossfire if that is what you are talking about...?
and if you are talking about the supercharger that comes with the SRT/AMG crossfire than there is not much problems with it other than the IC pump failing sometimes.. and that is about all I can think off... if performance is your concern there is no reason to take the N/A over the SRT/AMG Crossfire...

The problem IC pump or E19 is easily fixed by a decent dealer. I am not sure if the IC pump is a recall or not, but if you notice no zip to the SRT6 and the E19 module has been replaced then it means the IC pump is bad. I have a SRT6 and had no problems with the IC pump / E19 module. if you can afford the SRT6 go for it. Its the best deal out there.
N/A means the non-aspirated engines the base / limited.

NA is actually Naturally-Aspirated, as in regular atmospheric pressure instead of forced induction. The intercooler pump on the SLK32/CLK32/SRT6 is notoriously faulty, but the repair is quick and cheap. I highly recommend the SRT6 over the standard Crossfire.
Thanks all. So once the pump is replaced (if faulty), it will not happen again? I am concern because I don't want to keep going to the dealership. Past experience was I get more problems after visiting. Again Thanks all.
The pump will work fine until it fails again.
If you are in the Chicagoland area, I can do the pump replacement easily. Takes less than 30 minutes. Most dealerships I have encountered can't even diagnose the pump as the problem.

Only a few members have had the intercooler fail as few srts so far have reached above 20k miles... I am sure once more people start hitting 35k+ miles it will become a more common problem as many mercedes counterparts have it...
The dealer will quickly fix this issue under warranty provided that it happens before the warranty expires... Also the failure of the intercooler pump will not quickly make permanent damage to your engine it will just disable you from heating up the engine to much as the engine realizes that there is a lack of cooling done and will refuse to perform given tasks, unlike with the fan the engine will just heat up to ridiculous temperatures and if not treated quickly will lead to complete engine failure... I personally had the issue of the dead fan, but I was quick to repair it and did not drive it enough to do any damage to the engine...
I cannot recommend any car more than I can recommend the crossfire srt-6, but since you asked about the potential problems of the supercharger I am doing my best to answer your question... and explain to you the more common issue that are present with it... every car has its issues and the ic pump is a known faulty part in our mercedes counterparts, but again I state that in no way should it deter you from purchasing the vehicle and neither should it be the reason that steers you towards the N/A Crossfire over the SRT/AMG crossfire...
Hope this helps...

I just recently bought one after finding it on autotrader, I got it for $24,900 with 5,600 miles on it. I picked it up 3/30/07, and now its 6/6/07 and i have 11,300 miles on it. I drive it every single day and i love it.
I run it at the track, ran 13.06 @ 108.99 mph stock... i'm going to autox soon.
Now, please do more research on the car, maybe its just a typo or a slip up, but the SRT6 does NOT have a Turbo on it.
Good Luck.

Is this something that would help our cars since the IC pump is prone to failure. My car had only 5,000 miles when mine failed.

Due to the SRT-6 having additional programming in the ECU for the fuel air mixture/spark timing when the FAR (fuel air ratio) is out of range the ECU switches things off until the FAR gets back in range.
dreamSRT do some research on AMG and Mercedes-AMG to out find more about this badly misrepresented tuner car.

Correct, it does no damage to the engine. The vehicle will just be slower than a Honduh though.

The guys on the Benz board say that they have rarely had a problem with the I/C. My sister is married to the General Sales MGR of a Benz dealer and he said the service dept has hardly ever had to replace one. The problem stems from, according to the Benz crowd, a cold engine placed immediately in gear and driven like a bandit.
The engine should be allowed a very short amount of time to warm up. Problem solved.
But the SRT-6, it's the best, fast, reliable, collectible car on the planet.

Thank you all for such great inputs esp. to Rydiak and Sidez.
Rydiak - I found a SRT-6 for sale in Naperville, dealer is Bill Kay Chrysler. Have you heard of this place and are they reputable. Price seem very good at $25,000 with Nav. system. What do you think?
BTW I am in Virginia.
Again thanks ALL.

Hi DreamSRT,
Judging from this forum, seems like 99% of supercharger problems are traced back to the IC pump. I however, in an eternal quest to be different, lost my supercharger due to a failed clutch assembly. But this looks like an extremely rare occurrence so I wouldn't worry about it.

I have definitely heard of Bill Kay Chrysler. I bought my SRT-6 through them. :P They have very reasonable prices and a good sales staff. Ask for Gary and tell them Ryan says hello.
