Default Thermostat options

Are there any options, this car I have came from Illinois and this car seems to run hotter then I want it to, it's just above half on the gauge, I would like to see it below the half mark, the car seems to run better when I leave the house when it's good and cold, so has anyone tried a different stat.???

I'm checking the MB board. I found someone who put one in their SLK 32 and a C32. I'll report back with more info...

Yes I run that stuff in my race truck and my diesel truck, purple ice by Royal Purple works great too.

I have Water Wetter in my car - didn't seem to make any difference what-so-ever.
Made a big difference in the Mustang I had previously.
I don't know off the top of my head whether the Xfire cooling system is a greater volume than the Mustang.
Maybe I'll throw another bottle in!!!

make sure you don't have too much antifreeze in system. the more coolant it will be less effective read the label on bottle.

Right I will probably drain half of mine out and use distilled water with the purple ice...

That's where my car has run since day one, just above the half way mark.

Well, given the large volume of coolant in the SRT-6 between the Cooling system and Intercooler system, I added one whole bottle of Redline Water Wetter to it as I do with all my cars. I saw no difference either. The gauge still read just over half way. So I did some math and decided that another bottle of the stuff couldn't hurt. Now given that the Water Wetter is Red/Pink, and our coolant is blue I expected it to change the color slightly with two bottles. Well it didn't. The coolant looked the same. And with two bottles the gauge reads slightly below half way while the car is moving. Did the trick and have no adverse effect that I can see... These things have A LOT of coolant and can take two bottles.

That is good info as i too noticed it didn't make a difference with one bottle of water wetter. I'll add another! I also notice there is a big difference in performance when the car is "cool" vs "hot".

This past weekend I saw what a change in a thermostat can do... Even though its a different car, it proved gains...

A buddy of mine with a SRT8 Magnum dyno'd at a recent event that we held... The only change he had was from the previous time he dynoed was a thermostat and a intake. He put down 335 whp bone stock, his engine temps were 220... with the thermostat his engine temp was 185, he dyno'd 385 whp... that's a 50 whp gain... at the track, he gained took off .35 tenth in the 1/4 mile.

I think the SRT6 will GREATLY show improvements if you get the engine temps lower.

So fflores, with that kind of gain this would put you well in the 12 range. Are you going to dump that Goat and keep or repurchase your SRT6?

Here is the response I got from one of the members over on the MB board. I replied asking about what "full modded" meant. I'll get everyone the answer:

They are special order from Stuggart. Germany. They are not stocked state side. The only way they come is a 195*F /87*C . They run about $120 fully modded. Bring the engine temp down to about 185*F. The next product run will be in mid October.

It's been a while since I've seen this topic on the benzworld forums, but I remember seeing something about a 160*F thermostat... I'll see what I can pull up.

That would be cool to get one lower temp, the dealer is showing 2 options for the stat, there suppose to call me back to let me know if there is any difference at all...

My question is, why did they put such a hot thermostat in the car to begin with?! I mean with the supercharger producing loads of heat, why do that? What is the stock thermostat anyway? My guess would be 220?

We've gone through this at naseum on the 300 site. There are many threads from SRT Engineers swearing that these cars were fine and designed to run at higher temperatures. They have tested lower t-stats and have seen no performance gains. None of our members believe that since they have proof after dyno and track runs. I think it all comes down to bean counters and the warranty *****.

Do a search for 'PTE thermostat' over on MBWorld. I'm not naming names, but he'll hook you up or at least point you in the right direction to get one. There are many AMG owners using this mod and it appears that all of them are happy with it. At least one of the SLK32 owners has it.

Yup. That's who I'm working with. The cost is going to be $120. The next batch will be made in Oct. He does the mods himself and doesn't make much money off of them. Let me know how many are interested and I'll send him a count. Here's his quote:

I have to gut the new piece from MB, then machine a new valve & vernatherm to fit.
