Default Buying an SRT-6 tomorrow...any advice?

My cousin who is a mechanic is coming to check out the car tomorrow right before I buy it, I know the IC pump is an issue but are there any other problems that are pretty common to the car? It has 29k on it. Thanks for any replies and I'm very excited to be joining all of you!

Welcome to the SRT club!! I would just have your mechanic look for the normal wear items. There really isn't that much that goes wrong with these cars. Get a Carfax and make sure it hasn't been in an accident.
Look through the forum if you haven't already.

check the underside of the doors (under weather stripping) for rust.

Yeah, what he said. If you are over 5'9" getting in and out is and exercise in gymnastics. The ride isn't too bad, but you could hurt yourself trying to get in or out to fast.

Oh, and check the tires. If they are very worn, use that as a bargaining tool as new ones are $$$! at 29K miles the car could easily be well into its second set of tires. If you drive the car hard, the Michelins will die in 15,000-18,000 miles.

Common problems are very few, and the ones that do exist are very minor for the most part.

- Transmission leak around the Speed sensor.

- Rust at the bottom of the doors is the worst thing these cars are know for(still covered under warranty though, and Chrysler is good about fixing them).

- Heated seat elements go out frequently, especially in the bottom cushion.

- The rear hatch area has a tendency to rattle over bumps sometimes.

- Sometimes the windows make nails on a chalkboard noises going up and down when they are moist.

- Wind noise around the Driver's window.

- At the 29K, if the intercooler pump isn't already dead, it will be soon. It may have already been done. Some owners don't even notice this problem cause they never drive the car to its potential. If you have never driven one that is right, you wouldn't know the difference either more than likely.

- The Valeo Radiators have a tendency to start cross contaminating the transmission fluid an a 'few" cars. This is mostly a problem on the Mercedes car, not as much on ours.

- The headlights De-Laminate and turn cloudy if you look at them wrong. The warranty should cover new ones, or just use 3M Plastic Polish on them.

That's about it. The chances are that the only problems you are likely to encounter are the Intercooler Pump and Headlight De-Laminating. Both are easy fixes and the Intercooler Pump upgrade is cheap to do. You should actually do that even if yours isn't bad yet.

Thank you guys for all the quick replies. I did used to drive a toyota celica so I am pretty used to the getting in situation (plus I'm 5'5") and the spring situation was probably a little similar too. I wrote down all of the problems listed for my cousin to look at. I'm pretty sure the celica had the same headlight thing going on, even with an aftermarket pair of headlights. Thanks again...I'm so excited I can't sleep.

make sure the tire repair kit is there and the tool in the glove box - they were missing on mine and my car was shipped so now I have to buy them.

Best suggestion for you is to spend on the extended warranty. A single replacement of the seat heater core is more than the cost of the warranty, and the seat heater core is filed under the "common problems" category.

What he said. Spend the extra $$$ and get the Chrysler Max Care Extended Service Contract. It covers 5007 features, systems, parts etc. The only thing it doesn't cover is normal wear parts and maint. The extra $20 per month in payment is worth not having to shell out $1,000 for seat heater at 50,000 miles, or a bad radiator for about $1,500.

Sooo I bought it!!! Everything checked out on the car. My cousin inspected it, my dad inspected it (who is very against me getting the car) and had to admit its a clean car. Got the extended warranty, only way the banks would give me the car anyways. Supercharger works very good...never driven a car with this much power. Tire repair kit is there, along with the tool in the glove box (not sure what it is didn't really look at it too much). I love the car so far the only complaint I have is that sometimes the car acts as if its my dad and says no I'm not gonna let you go that fast. It doesn't feel like anything giving out at all it actually mainly feels like its drive by wire related. I tried resetting the pedal earlier but I don't think I did it right so I will retry it tomorrow. When resetting the key should go all the way to the off position (the key just inserted one) right? Also the headlights are getting that look too them, now would the polish take out the look from them or is it more of a preventative thing? Also does anyone make an HID kit for the car? Anyways thanks for all the quick replies and I'm really happy about the car and I hope to maybe see some of you guys driving around some day.

Bobo,

When does it feel like it doesn't want you to go?

If it is immediately off of the starting line, then you are likely OK.

If you are already driving and try to accelerate - and it won't, it is likely your IC pump (which is a warranty item).

Congrats on your SRT. You might as well answer some questions and take some advice.

1. Buy gold rotex brake pads for the front. You will get tired of cleaning the SRT rims very quickly.

2. Fill out your personal info ie.
Where are you from?
How old are you?
What color is your SRT?
Ect ect ect.

3. Drive slow enjoy the XF!

4. Join XFI.

It feels like it doesn't wanna go sometimes on the expressway and I push it too the ground. It's not like the supercharger kicks in and then it stops its just like nothing happens. Off the line the car is amazing. The car did seem to get better through the night though. And it seems the lighter on the pedal I am the quick the car goes. Anyways is there a for sure way to know the IC pump is bad? Also I clean my cars every single week in the summer but yeah for the winter as soon as I need pads I will probably end up with those pads. About to fill out the personal info but whats XFI?

Oh and here's a picture.

I would go ahead and replace the pump with a Ford Lightning Pump and be done with it. Even if yours is good (from your description, it sounds like it's GOING OUT as we speak), it's cheap insurance and easy to do if you have any mechanical skill at all. The pump cost about $90 from a Ford Dealer or online and takes about 45 minutes to put in. Do a search for the Lighting Intercooler pump, and I think there is a How-To in the How-To section of this forum. I wouldn't even bother taking it to the dealer for this, as they have no idea how to diagnose it and will want to replace sensors and other crap before the pump.

Would putting in this ford pump void the warranty for anything?

You definitely have an IC pump issue - I'd personally talk to your local dealer(s) first - if you feel confident in them (and you are under warranty), let them fix it.

If you aren't comfortable with them - do it yourself. It is an easy fix from what I've read.

Wait until you get that pump fixed, then it will REALLY fly.

XFI is Crossfires International - a 'club'.

Nice color choice!
