Default Silver Calipers

I recently had the drivers side rear wheel fall off the car. After all the $$$ repairs were completed at the dealership, I ended up with a silver brake caliper. All the other calipers are black. I know I'm probably being too picky, but it drives me insane to know that it does not match. I am mechanically inept, so excuse my ignorance for the following question:

Is it ok to paint the new caliper black?

Thanks!

~ sure it is...

i would be the same as you from an ascetics point of view. i am surprised the parts for the srt (caliper) would not all be the same in color.

cheers!

First off, how did the wheel fall off of a brand ew car? Second make sure the Caliper is the same one as on the other side. I don't know if a Base Crossfire Caliper will fit on the rear of an SRT or not, but I suppose it could be possible. As long as it's the same as the other one, then it's fine to paint them.

They are not the same because they are no longer manufacturing callipers for the SRT so they are replaced with those from the reguar crossfires... JUST KIDDING!! I too am suprised, but it could be a change in manufacturer.

Your not being too picky i would never be able to live with that. Scuff it up and paint it!

But like someone said make sure they gave you the right caliper first. That seems odd.

Our Limited calipers are plated with zink (silver color) all four, they are stock. SRT6 may be differnt. Auto part stores carry Dupli-Color paint for calipers, but do check to be sure both side are the same at least visually.

Yes, the wheel fell off. Check out post 13 on this page:

I am going to investigate the caliper part number listed on my invoice. It sounds fishy.

Let's see if I have this straight... You bought a SRT6 that had 4 black calipers one was replaced and it's not black... That's because all of the OEM calipers are either silver or copper colored... So, the black calipers you have are either aftermarket replacements or were painted already...

Then yours are painted by someone as well... Here's what they look like straight from the factory, and this is what the dealer will sell you... There are NO painted calipers from the factory...

I am sure they paint them at the factory - I wonder what color they are on the SLK32.

When I pulled my calipers off to paint, the stock calipers looked like they had been dipped; thick black paint with lots of runs.

But they look nice now.

They do not paint them at the assembly plant... They may paint them once they arrive for dealer prep in the USA... But not from KARMANN... So, if you have painted calipers, you have had someone other than the factory pulling your brakes apart...

Here is exactly what the factory installs in Germany... The system is made by ATE... They do not paint the calipers...

lol HDDP are you sure I am kidding I get what you are saying. Guess bottom line is you are going to have to paint it to match. I would take the time to maybe chage the color of all the calipers while one of them is fresh...

It's possible, I know that the entire braking system is manufactured by ATE in Germany as is for all MB cars... Either way, if he got a new caliper from Chrysler and it was copper or silver, not black, he doesn't have to worry that he didn't get the right part... It will say ATE stamped into the casting...

For future reference, you can purchase directly from ATE at 45% less than the dealer wil charge.
