srt6 mods
hey everyone, just joined up so i can get some questions answered. I was going to post this in the modifications forum but I wasnt sure if a lot of srt6 owners frequent it. I currently drive a 350z. I love the car. I have been debating putting in a turbo but the cost is a bit high. Plus the VQ engines are pretty weak when it comes to FI. how much $ does it take to make an srt6 a low 12's car. I saw that chi-town is selling his car (congrats on the new baby) and saw that he ran low 12's. Is anyone in the 11's or even 10's with an srt6? if so what did it take? I know superchargers are a lot different from turbos and typically more reliable (dont hit max tq and hp until redline), so how does the srt6 motor handle it? any cases of blown motors? how reliable is the supercharger? I know Mercedes switched to turbos because their superchargers on the amg's were constantly in the shop for repairs. Thanks in advance guys! happy new year

To make the crossfire low 12 second car all you need is pulleys, intake, and an ecu tune.. roughly $2500-3500 depends which ones you purchase...
No one is in the 11s not because it is not easily acheivable, but because there are not to many people that crazy about performance on this forum, and many would like to keep this car as daily drivable as possible so no, but plenty could of acheived these results by simply swapping tires.. Also performance products for this car only recently started to spring up...
The M112 motor is a champ work out the basic heat soak issues and it will not fail.. no cases of blown motars that I know about.. at least not lately..
and your last comment about mercedes switching to turbos... I don't know what you are talking about constantly in repairs.. the only supercharged benzes as of late were the 230 the 32 amg and 55 amg.. the 230 was dropped cause it was pathetic and more efficent to run non supercharged engines at such a low segment.. the 32 was dropped in favor the larger v8 amgs... and the 55amg is also being dropped, but I don't know why...

I love the looks of the 350Z, but you see a lot less SRT6's and that's what got my attention. With that said, there are a LOT more mods for the 350Z so don't expect to go to a catalogue and get the SRT6 into the 10's like you probably could with the Z. However, there are more and more coming daily it seems...so there is hope for the SRT6.

Intake around $450, or make your own for less than half
ECU Tune around $500
That will get you low 12's if you can drive it. Add a set of $800 wheels/tires and you SHOULD get into the 11's. Add a $600 Phantom grip LSD and you should get even quicker. No one has tried different wheels/tires to my knowledge...so I'm not sure how quick it will get.

The biggest problem is the heat in the I/C system. Get this taken care of and get on down the road!

I like 350z's myself and actually considered one. They look good, handle and brake well.
IMO, the SRT6 provides a better power platform because it already has the s/c and was designed from the factory to run boost. My experience with turbo cars is that the ones that were factory turbo'd seem to be more reliable, even when upping the boost. This is of course unless you plan on spending mega bucks and go so extreme that every part of the engine/ecu will be replaced anyway.
I think youll drop a small fortune getting a turbo 350z to actually run fast and be RELIABLE.
But let me know if you go that route and maybe we can meet up at a stoplight. J/k.

What was your 60' time on your 12.2 run? Drag racing; in an automatic car, is ALL about the 60'.
I think he had a 1.8 or 1.9 60' which is pretty stellar considering the street tires and stock suspension. I'm not sure how much the DR's will help.
I will say that my car shifts to 2nd gear almost as soon as the tires break loose...so it would likely help mine a lot. I was turning 2.2 60's and 13.2 1/4 miles (stock) at 85* air and 95% humidity.
My car also broke loose at the 1/2 shift on every run which would be minimized with DR's.

Every .1 of a second of your 60' generally relates to a .15 of a second lower ET in the 1/4 mile. In theory if you run 13.2 with a 2.2 60' on street tires...........that would equal a 12.9 with a 2.0 60' or a 12.6 with a 1.8 60'. The main factor in getting good times is always TRACTION which is why I find it odd that aparantly nobody has ever bolted on a set of DRs or slicks to a SRT-6. Maybe I'll have to be the first to explore that untouched area.
