Hey all,

2 different body shops have determined that there's not enough damage to total my SRT. So repairs have begun with 80% of the parts arriving next week. Current repair estimate is 12K.

Both rear tires need to be replaced. I've spent hours researching all of the great tire conversations on this board and looked at the reviews on Tire rack and discount tires direct. I've narrowed it down to 3 choices...sort of. The new Goodyear F1 all season doesn't seem to be available until late February and none of us, me, body shop, insurance co. want to wait that long, so that choice is out. So my two candidates are; Goodyears F1 GS-D3 or Continentals Conti Sport 3. I don't have any snow or ice considerations and don't see much rain but do need to be able to drive in it. I also would like to try autocrossing once or twice this year. (stock car, no mods planned at the moment) The front still has the stock Conti Touring Contact tires on with good tread life left. Would like to replace all 4 but can't afford it at the moment. The insurance company is paying for one of the rears only. Hoping some of you can encourage me one way or the other.

I jsut went to the Goodyear shop near me looking for the F1 all seasons and got the same thing. Might have to go order them now.

Good thing it wasn't deemed totaled, but it looks like you're keeping it til it dies

 

I'd go for the Conti's, they wear kind of fast, but I think they have great traction. I had them on my 04 coupe, I have PS2's on my SRT6 they are a great tire, but I don't think they stick to the road as good as the Conti's did.

 

The Goodyear F1's look and handle awesome. Much better than the conti's.

 

I had the all season contis and then switched to the Goodyear Eagle GS-D3 (Summer) and they were a major improvement.. but maybe that was because of the switch from all seasons to summer tires..

The only problem I have with them is that when it is below 40 degrees they start to get very hard from cold and make driving over not so perfect roads very unpleasant, but once the temperature is above 50 they are top notch...

 

10-4, difference day and night, Contis not even close, Eagle F1's are far superior to Contis and can't beat the look, i have the unidirectional

Thanks guys for the feedback. Ya know, you guys are consistant with what I've been finding, some people like one brand, some like the other and both tires get high marks. Im just gonna have to choose. Chocolate or vanillla? hehe

If you've read the threads on here about tires, you may have noticed that I am not a fan of the GY GS-D3 tires. Having read many reviews when
buying my 3rd set of tires, I bought the GS-D3 Goodyear F1 tires, and
have found them lacking in comparison to the Conti ASP tires. The F1s
do not hold the road anywhere near as well as the ASP Conti's did. The
F1s, from the first day of installation, broke traction in corners and at
speeds that the Contis never squealed about, and they get stiffer in cold
weather (below 50) and the ride becomes a bit rougher. The single
advantage I see to these is that they seem to be lasting a bit longer.

Having experienced these first hand, my next set will back in the Conti
fold. Think I'll give the Contact 3 tires a try. Good luck!

I am considering buying Yokohama Advan S-4.

 

I had the Conti Sport Contact 2 on my Base coupe, got almost 30,000 mile from them and they were a good tire. I replaced them with the BF Goodrich g-Force T/A KDW and was very please! They looked and performed incredible on the car, but we have no snow in Dallas. I have the factory Pilots on my SRT, but will replace them with the BF Goodrich g-Force T/A KDW when the time comes.

I have an conti's now PS2's. No comparison. PS2's top of my list.

 

PS2's are good for us

 

I have the PS2s as summer tires and F1 A/S as winter tires. PS2s stick much better but ride harsher. F1 A/S great in rain, light snow etc. and considerably softer riding than PS2s. I don't have anything to offer you on the Contis - I have not liked other Contis I have had - but none were any kind of performance tire either.

 

Conti's BLOW HARD they are LOUD, and wear way too fast, G/years I'm just not a fan of, I love my Michelins. However you can get fronts cheap by a brand named Nexen. I don't think they make a size for the rear though. They ar a Mich knock off, but are every bit as good, smooth, long lasting, and quiet
