But at this point your intake air is Kompressed. I think it's a good start if you plan to port and polish the other components...

all airflow tubes/chambers/ect BEFORE injectors (whether it be water, fuel or nitrous) flow better with the smoothest surface possible. in the old days when cars had carburators the fuel was added to the air just after the filter and it that case yes i would agree we wouldnt need to go as smooth since there was an air/fuel mixture and we dont want the fuel to puddle on the sides. when we get cyl heads ported we get tiny spoon shaped divots put into the intake runners to cause a tumbling (in some cases a tiny reverse flow) which keeps the fuel from collecting.

yes it may be a bit overkill for the coating but when we learned that the companies we deal with have the capability to do so we said sure lets go for it. its sprayed and then baked onto the piece at Dart Cyl Heads. They do not have the writeup for this coating on their website yet but its closer to their skirt coating then the others they have listed.

yes im going to have to. at the moment i only have 2 cores, dodge does not have a part number for this (dodge dealership cannot order one if it breaks under warranty, lol), and mercedes is on indefinate backorder, there is no stock in the states or in germany (they have to make more). we did put an order in for 5 more to expand the cores we have but im not holding my breath on it so the exchanging of these will be a slow process with us only having 2 extras.

 

It would be nice to see a side by side "before and after" port and polish to compare.

 

Real world example on smooth versus rough....on boats a smooth service will not hinder you until after 100 mph. Then you want a rough surface....basically if you wax a REAL fast boat it will slow it down....Granted I am talking about .05% of the boating public.
I have no idea what air does but thats what water does on as boat.

Do 600+mph airplanes have rough surfaces?

 

they might have a 220 grit polish to the wings. I know full scale gliders pilots rough up the get coats on the planes surface to gain an egde durring cross country races

 

BTW, I was not being a smart @$$ when I asked that - although it could be read that way. Every plane I have seen appears quite shiny and 'slick' although I've never been close enough to see just how smooth they are.

On boats we used to sand now we paint the last 8" to 14" or "running surface" with a black texture surface.
Best example I could give you is like a Rhino liner.
Maybe after certain speeds it goes the other way??

I'm all for the the build overkill, but not the price overkill. If this part added atleast 3 to 4whp I'd consider it for that price, but it is more of an enhancer than a power maker.

$100 after core charge is not terrible. If you want the comestics, it's a nice looking piece. To each his own.

Good news!! I was very impressed with Rob's intake. From the packaging/instructions to the final product and performance gains. It even impressed my dad(which is hard to do!!) I will definitely be doing business with him again! I like his ideas and im glad he is doing the work for our cars.
