Red face My first time…Let herrr RIP…I think?

Okay guys and gals, I thought I would share my first ever experience at the track with all of you.

Background -
Buddy of mine bought a stock 03 Cobra and challenged me to a drag race two weeks ago. I did my research (google) on his car and found it would be an even match, drivers pending. So, I told him sure but after I get my mods installed and that caused him to quickly mod the Cobra with a pulley/ CAI/ ECU Flash.
He asked me last week, “Are you ready to get your *** handed to you?” to which I replied my mods have not arrived yet (I’m nervous). Thinking to myself, LET were are my mods so I can take the 6 out and let her RIP? He calls me yesterday to say he will be at the track that night and wants me to meet him. Still modless but tired of his fat lip, I agree to meet but not race.

Track -
Met at the gas station, I follow him to the track and discovered there is a $10 lane charge. I only had $5 so he pays my way in and says, “I already own you”. New to this whole thing, I see the majority of people with hoods up. So when in Rome do as the Romans ...LOL... I 90 degree my hood and the next thing I knew there was a crowd around me. I answer questions; correct those making wrong assumptions and then the announcer calls out the lanes are open. My buddy leaves, makes his first run, returns to me disappointed and starts provoking me to just make one pass.
I cave and get in line NERVOUS AS HELL. I’m trying to remember information I read on our forum about drag racing like TC off, shift into first and hold on, AC off and windows up, go on the third yellow light etc… LOL…Cars all around me revving their engines so I can’t focus. I’m here in the lane against a ricer and he spins his tires so when in Rome do as the Romans...LOL…so I spin mine…I know what you guys are thinking but remember its my first time and I’m NERVOUS. One yellow lit, two yellows lit, the third yellow lit and I’m off down the track screaming as if its adding hp…LMAO.
I made three runs after that with my first run being the best go figure maybe my screaming did add some power LOL. Going 4-0 in all passes, 3 against ricers and 1 against my buddies Cobra. So for not having my mods I was elated that the 6 won every race, regardless of times at this point. Got home and waiting for me on the door was a UPS Attempted Delivery Notice, I missed my pulleys/ intake isn’t that something. THANKS LET! LOL!

Times -
I will edit this post and show all times later today, back to work.

LOL, great story. Sounds like something I'd do, I've never ran at a track either. So how bad did you beat the Cobra, those 03 & 04's are wicked fast with a few mods?

NICE - Real Nice!!

Now get them mods on and spank that Cobra...

You can see that IAT's can quickly become your demon. With a pulley installed - this becomes even more critical.

Can't wait to see your times...and then see how you do with the mods..

Dont expect to have TC off and have the car in 1st gear once you get your mods. I have pulleys+intake, no tune, yet. I can't leave in 1st with TC on or off without spinning my tires, or any gear with TC off. I find my best launches are with TC on, car in drive, rev to 1700.

I REALLY wanna see the slip for you and the Cobra. Good story, I think we all felt that way the first time. The only thing that doesn't change is the curiosity about the car at the track.

Well I will be running on the track for my first time on Midwest private track day.
I will be among those modded Benz E55's and a few Crossfires.
I only have a 04 Crossfire w/no mods but still looking forward to the experience.

In all honesty, the Cobra should have smoked you if he had the mods done that you said. That should be a mid 12 second car. My buddies 03 in stock form was running 12.9s

That was a big write-up and you didn't list your 1/4 mile times, what were they?

No matter what, I'm glad you were able to shut your friends mouth and show the viewers that SRT-6s are nothing to flinch at.

Your right, he should have beaten me with the mods listed in original post. No doubt a stock Cobra can run high 12 and low 13 but driver error plays a major factor. Not my fault if the nervous rookie drove better.

I ran on a 1/8 track and I left my times at home or I would have shown those at the time of original post. However, I believe my 1/8 time was 8.7xx and his was 8.9xx but once I have the times in front of me they will be posted.

Thanks, our next match will be in mid April once my mods are installed. I’m going to install mods in stages so I can get accustom to them and obtain baseline numbers with each.

Thanks everyone and actual numbers are coming (hoping there not corolla speeds).

With those mods on the Cobra the guy needs a driver mod. 1st time with my stock Cobra 1/8 mile was 8.54 @ 85 mph. Either that Cobra needs someone to tune that car or a lot of practice driving.

Thumbs up Re: My first time…Let herrr RIP…I think?

Great story, i'll be doing the same thing (first time) as soon as i get my pulley order from LET. If you ordered yours in the group buy i should see my 181mm soon. I've got one question for all you track guys, is there a age limit (hi end ) at these tracks ? I'll be 70 4/21/08. Your story was inspirational. ILLCYA

I don't recall the first ricer who was my first run. Second run was a Honda Civic, third run Cobra and last run VW Golf.

Okay here are my slips and my times are under 421. No air was let out of the back tires and I did not rev prior to launch.

1st run (unknown)
DSCN0939.jpg?t=1206152335

2nd run (Honda Civic)
TC lights up in second gear (I didnt let off the gas) and car bogs down. Had to play catch up to win.
DSCN0940.jpg?t=1206152589

3rd run (Cobra)
TC lights up again in second (I ease off the gas briefly) and TC goes away.
DSCN0941.jpg?t=1206153036

4th run (VW Gulf)
Not sure what happened, still jacket up on mountain dew from beating my buddy.
DSCN0942.jpg?t=1206153261

So what do you guys think, is my 8.XXX a good baseline stock? My intake is here and I want to get a baseline with that. Pulley will arrive on Monday and will have it installed in about 2-3 weeks. FEEDBACK!

Great story. 8.7xx+ are usually high 13's low 14's time in the 1/4....both yours and the Cobras times are off the pace...may be the tracks fault.........

Your on track, with a 8.7 @ 83.77 Some of the others on dragtimes with stock SRT6's
Your 1/4 mile time would have been closer to a 13.4- 13.3 with a speed of around 105.
