Default Loss of Power!!!

I just made an appointment to take my 05 SRT6 into a local Chrysler here in San Diego. The last few times I've been driving around I've noticed when I tried to accelerate there was no power. It feels as though I press on the accelerator and it doesn't want to accelerate. It doesn't always happen, it's been an intermittent problem. It can happen when I'm driving anywhere from 25 mph and up. It feels almost like my little supercharger isn't kicking in. (my opinion)

Just wondering if anyone has also experienced this problem and what your diagnosis was.

Thanks

Carolyn

Before you get attacked and scolded about not using the search function, let me tell you in a polite and pleasant fashion that your problem is the Intercooler Pump. It needs to be replaced and then everything will go back to normal.

Basically the intercooler pump either goes out entirely or starts working intermittently, and this causes the coolant to sit stagnant in the intercooler heat exchanger. The air going through your intake is then heated by the supercharger, and causes the Intake Air Temperature sensor to send an overheat code to the computer. That code disengages the supercharger and pulls timing, and makes other adjustments. This causes the loss of power you are describing.

The first thing your dealer is going to want to replace is that Intake Air Temperature sensor. That's fine, you can let them go ahead and replace it...but then insist that they drive it hard for at least 20 minutes to see that in fact, that didn't fix the problem, so they can then move on to the intercooler pump which IS the problem. Took my dealer 3 tries, to believe me and actually get the part and replace it. If you can do it in less than 3 visits, you're in real good shape!

Were gonna need a few more pics to figure this one out...

LOL...it's probably the IC pump. Be sure to tell the dealer that...

It sounds like you intercooler pump. Do a search on here for the ic pump and you'll find plenty of info on it.

Thank you!
I did try and research a bit but, there is so much to read in these forums and being new to this site doesn't help either.
But I appreciate it!

Get a new inner-cooler pump and you will be on your way!

Thank you all for your well needed information and "kind" picture comments. My little SRT does take great pictures. LOL!
I will print out some of the previous post/comments and have them handy. This helps to know what I should expect to hear from the service dept. I've never had any problems with my "little beast". It's only been in for oil changes. (knock on wood!) This little car is so much fun to drive and I want to keep it that way. I have a jeep if I want to go slow!

Have a great day everyone!

I just dropped my roadster off this morning at Preston Chrysler-Jeep in Dallas for the same problem...plus the passenger side foglight falling apart (known problem)...plus the headlight housings hazing badly on the outside upper portion (another known problem). Oh, and a couple of known noise problems as well. I figured the service visit might as well be worthwhile as long as the warrranty is still active!

I left detailed written notes (especially about the "charge air cooler circulation pump" in Factory lingo, "intercooler pump" in ours). I wait with interest to see what they have to say. I'm betting that they will try to replace the IAT sensor first as a fix.

Not to hijack the thread....but if they give you any issues at Preston, take it to Huffines in Plano. I have taken both my Crossfires to them and they do a great job! They have a factory trained Crossfire tech there so he has seen it all!

Word is in...I win that that bet with myself. They are replacing the IAT sensor first.

I am not paying myself off on the bet, however. I think I had an unfair advantage over me and I refuse to let me profit from it!

I hope you have better luck with your service people than I, forever35!

Hmmm

Not so sure on the IC pump failure. Yes, I know it's a booger and it fails readily but I have noticed exactly the same on my SRT6. Sometimes the gearchange kicks down and we're off like a scalded cat; at other times it just stays in high gear and bogs down. The thing is: when it bogs down and I manualy shift , it's away like the clappers again.

Now I know why people fit the Speed Booster. It's the same problem. Yes it could be intercooler but try a manual shift and see if it reverts to normal.

Whatever the reason, it's buggin' the life out of me. It's in for a first service soon so I'll ask them to check the IAT sensor. If it throws a fault code then it'll be the IC pump, for sure. Only 10k miles and under warranty so it's Chrysler's problem.

KJ
I think these are two different pumps. There is an air pump under the bonnet (RHF) but the IC Pump is in the LHF wheel arch, under the inner moulding. Not sure, it may be the same but check the description in the service manual

Brought the printed ink...told them verbally and in writing. Short of taking wrenches out of the mechanics' hands and putting on a new pump (if they or I had one), I'm a little short on options. You give some of these dealers too much credit by assuming they will listen to anyone, whether or not the information is valid.

They can dance around the issue as long as they want. I won't be accepting the car back until it is properly repaired. I have other cars to drive in the meantime. And when the warranty is out I'll put a Johnson CM30 pump on it and not worry about it anymore.

Andy G: The description "Charge Air Coolant Circulation Pump" is from Section 7 of the SRT6 Service Manual available right here on the Forums. Speaking of that, I am forever grateful to MMZ_TimeLord and others who made it and the other tech docs available.

If anyone is having problems getting the IC pump changed out by their dealership, just have the dealership call chrysler up and describe the issue to the chrysler rep and make sure that rep looks for the issue under a cooling issue, not a performance one. The fact that my dealership and the chrysler rep were looking for the issue under performance is what added an extra two dealership visits to my fix.
