Smile steering damper

Just took my SRT in for routine service, and the dealer tells us that there is an oil leak coming from the steering damper, they have ordered parts and the repair will be done under warranty. The wife brought the the Crossfire in so I didn't have an opportunity to speak with anyone. There have been no oil drips, however, I have recently noted some steering drift and am wondering if this might be related? Has anyone else experienced this? The dealer charged me $131.74 for the oil change, with $85.00 for the 8-1/2 quarts of Mobile 1. $10.00 per quart represents a pretty hefty markup. We have really been enjoying the SRT now that Spring has finally arrived here in westcentral Minnesota. We get lots of stares and thumbsup from all ages. We let our twenty year old daughter take it for a ride one evening and some jerk stopped in the road ahead of here , hollered obscenities at her , and he and his group threw icecream cones at her. She quickly caled the police on her cell phone, the cops over heard the obcenities , and within moments three cop cars converged on the offender. He not likely to pull that caper again, however , it will be interesting if he ever tries to pull it on me. My daughter said she doesn't want to go alone in the SRT anymore.

Yes these cars are hard on steering parts due to the wide tires on the front .I found my self continualy correcting the car as i was going down the road then found a thread on here about it and decided to take a look.
I just changed mine i bought it from the mercedes dealer as the price was 61.00 and the Chrysler dealer was 214.00.

Steering damper replaced under warranty at 15k miles, only notable driving defect was rattle / loose feeling on cornering, especially when combined with a bump. It may have also been leaking, will check service records

I replaced mine, just becuase and I felt a noticable difference. I highly recommend it. I'll probably change mine out every 25,000 miles or less... The Steering parts seems to degrade quickly.
