Question Autostick?

Okay... I had a 300m with autostick which some i let an idiot drive who ended up messing up the transmission so I just traded it in cuz it was just over the warranty period.

After that I had a mazda6 which I loved but it was totalled.. autostick on it was nice also.

Anyway tips on using the autostick, most likely there is an old thread?

I've just been using it on the srt-6 in city driving, I guess it would be fine for when the highway has alot of traffic.

Does it make sense to use it when u are going over 50 or 60 at a steady pace, or for fun? I get scared if I downshift it might mess up the tranny like the manual says and what happened on my 300m.

I heard on the "almost shot at" post that the guy downshifted to 3rd when he was already at 70, so how does that work.. do you brake at the same time?? then take off....

What are you trying to do? Are you trying to drive it like it is a manual transmission, all the time? Some of the time? If you're looking for a sportier shift, Ive found that a "throttle reset" and pressing the warp-speed button at the bottom of the gas pedal provides good performance.

The computers on all these cars make it virtually impossible to damage them
It will only shift down as low as it can go safely while keeping you in the optimum gear for performance.
If you hold the autostick left it will downshift to the best safest lower gear.
If ya just tap it left it will downshift only one gear.
If ya put it in first or leave it in any other gear and hammer it it will shift at redline even if you don't.

Exactly what I did. I put the pedal all the way down and gave the shifter two quick taps to the left - And I WAS GONE! I believe the car wont let you do what you shouldn't. I knew downshifting to 3rd while doing 70 woudn't be a problem because the car will do 100 in 3rd.

Also, if you up shift to 5th, or hold it to the right for 2 secs it will go back into drive.
Hold left for 2 secs to downshift into the optimum passing gear.
If you floor it, there is a button under the pedal that will downshift for you, but you gotta push it to activate the "warp speed."

In other markets (non US), it is used for a rear marker light.
