Thumbs down Mercedes Wheel Centercaps

Hi Folks!

I'm looking at removing the wheel center caps and replacing them with a plain chrome finish cap for Mercedes and chrome lug nut caps. The outfit selling the aftermarket caps (eBay store)
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...TQ:MOTORS:1123

They also sell secondhand Mercedes caps as well, which look very much like ones I've seen in a pic somewhere in this forum.

I sent them pics of my SRT-6 wheels and they came back saying that the center hole won't hold their caps because there is no inside lip. The dinner plate stock SRT caps use the center hole and hold without a lip.

Has anyone tried these aftermarket center caps??? (and lug nut caps)

Thanks in advance

Ron

Basically, if it fits in a MB hub it will fit the Xfire. I have some AMG aftermarket on mine and they fit fine. Here is a link on this discussion.

I noticed that the photo above of Woody's doesn't have the lug covers.
I bought the mercedes caps AND the lug covers. First of all the caps are off of removed factory M/B wheels (back has mercedes star) and the dealer told me that is how he gets them so cheap. The lug covers are kinda gimicky and come with a tool to remove before putting a lug wrench on.
All an all I have to say the lug covers really make the difference, They look great and for the price how can you go wrong?
Every time I drive the car it seems people mention that "You changed the wheels" couldn't be happier.Only problem was I wanted to change to a different wheel but now they look so good and being I kinda want to keep it stock in certain ways I can't make up my mind whether or not I should spring for them.
Enjoy the Ride...
Mike

Thanks for the info guys! Much appreciated. I've ordered the caps and lug nut covers (at $30 for both + mail it's an easy and inexpensive mod).

Don't you all drive a Chrysler Crossfire? I didn't know Mercedes made one too.

Crossfires should take caps that are 3" (75mm) in diameter. IF you have an SRT-6 then do an ebay search on AMG Wheel caps. Here is what I'm getting.

Now that u mention it there's a bunch of badges on the Crossfire that do say "Chrysler". If I need a replacement Chrysler badge I'll run down to my local Chrysler dealer.

My question was related to installing 3" plain chrome center caps on the SRT factory wheels (see link in original post). Since Chrysler doesn't honor their US warranty in Canada I don't really feel obligated to carry their advertising on my wheels.

Having said that I feel much better.

I guess I bought a car that Chrysler service seems to know very little about and Mercedes service don't want any part of. I still think that it's a great ride and I've forked out $199 for the 3 Crossfire Service Manuals so that when I have to get work done at Joe's Wrench and Wrecking he will know where to hit it with his hammer.

Gee I thought that the weight reduction of unsprung weight would help in cornering. Actually the photo was during a wheel fitting test with some tires / spring combo's, Enjoy W.

Thumbs up Re: Mercedes Wheel Centercaps

I bought the ones pictured in the E-Bay ad. They look great as I never cared much for the center caps. You won't be sorry you switched.

I jusr measured my 2007 Base Coupe's center hole, and it's 2 inches.

Is there adifference between the base wheels and the SRT wheels?

Bruce:

I have the SRT wheels. I don't know if the N/A Crossfire wheel centers are the same, but hopefully someone who does know for certain will pick up the thread and reply.

I ordered both a set of used (looked like new) Mercedes emblem centers originally installed on a Mercedes vehicle. They fit perfectly, and in combination with the chrome (plastic) lug nut caps made for an attractive wheel. The second set were "aftermarket" new plain center caps that supposedly were made for the same model Mercedes. While the same cap diameter, the insert portion was desgned differently and it does not fit the wheel. It sits about 3/8" out from the wheel and is not suitable. I purchased the custom SRT-6 decals being sold by a reliable fellow in the forum and installed them over the Chrysler badges and am quite pleased with the appearance. The wheels do however look good with the Mercedes caps and lug nut covers. If I can find plain chrome (no-name) ones that fit..I would probably switch to them.
Hope this helps a little.
Ron

The Mercedes center caps don't fit the Base Coupe and Limited wheels.

I got a set of Gorilla aftermarket chrome lug bolts to go with the mercedes center caps for my SRT. No lug bolt covers required.
