rotten eggs
I recently purchased my second Crossfire, trading a 2004 coup for a 2005 SRT Cpe. The car only had 1249 miles on it and mine old one had 53,000. Its a fantastic car and I enjoy it very much. I have two questions though: First during hard acceleration I get a rotten egg smell like there is too much raw gas getting to the catalytic convertor. Secondly, every once in a while I turn the ignition on and the car doesn't immediatlely start and even though I release the key it keeps on cranking until it starts. Its just confusing.
When you turn the ignition to start you do not have to hold it. It will keep cranking until the car starts or a time limit expires. Not sure what the limit is. Mine always starts in a couple of seconds. Cant help you with the smell.

Sometimes the rotten egg smell is just bad gas. Try a tank of a good name brand and see if that helps. if it is like mine it sat a long time with the same gas in it. Mine only had 58 miles when I got it last year. it sat since 05.
Normal for both though the starting thing I can't vouch for.
The 'hands-free' ignition start I think is a kinda cool feature though I can't vouch for the delay. In either car, as soon as I turn the key I'll get a start sequence almost immediately.
The same hydrogen sulfide smell occurs in both of my cars too, but only when stomping on them. Usually an issue with either the catalytic converters getting mucho hot and/or the sulfur content in the gas you're using. Try a different brand of gas & see if it doesn't make a difference! I would doubt if the smell is anything to worry about, as long as you don't have a date in the car! Just make sure you pass a bunch of cows when you accelerate

Hmm mine has about 6,000 mi on it starts 2nd or 3rd crank, but i know what your talking about that wierd egg smell noticed that one day. Just take it easy when your first start and drive your car, let the temp about 1 notch under half before you get on it. thats the only time i experienced the smell getting on it hard before the car was fully warmed up. Its still in open loop and maybe its just dumping extra gas. I put in 93 shell V-power here, its the 15% eth crap too =/. Once its warmed up i never notice the smell though.

Remember the 70's ? Just about every other car smelt like that when under exceleration due to the "new" unleaded crap they were selling for gas.
Actually it sounds like a bad cat to me. When starting do all the intended warning lights come on before starting and turn off as they should seconds after starting? This could be an indication of a cat problem brewing or hidden by previous owner.

My SRT is also giving out this "Rotten Egg" Smell. I can't wait to depleate my gas to try a different one. AT LEAST I hope the gas is the prblem.
When I was filling up - the gasoline tanker was filling up the gas station...?

I'd also like to note - It ONLY happens when I drive her rough.
P.S. My check engine light is on - I think it is the secondary air sensor? Will net to get that fixed ASAP!

Most recommendations that I have seen suggest waiting at least 1 hour after the tanker drops fuel before you fill up (if you happen to know exactly when that is). I would never, ever get gas while a tanker is dumping fuel....but that's just me.

My NA gives off that sulfur smell once in a while if I jump on it a little on the x-pressway, my tauras did the same thing. I drive a roadster and smell it from other cars occasionally. I think its normal for all converters to give off that odor, ecpeccially after a visit to the drive through at Taco Bell.
I think I read that this only happens with Automatic trannys....
