A mod of my own. More Air Intake (MAI)
Well being the car guy that I am I had to start looking at what makes my "new" SRT6 tick. I started by removing the stock air intakes to see how the air was getting into the intake. Very small opening in the air intake tube located in the front of the grill seemed to be a big obstruction to the amount of air available to the engine. I considered cutting the area located under the air cleaners to allow more air to flow but didn't want to damage the orginal intake at all. Closer inspection revealed that the plastic "humps" in the air intake tube were removeable, so I removed them! Within the "humps" are a number of holes on the top and bottom of the tube. I reinstalled the intake and went for a ride. What do ya know, more power!
I know, I know, it's hot air. But more power is more power!
Until I get my CAI I'll be running with my MAI !
Let's call it the DJ Mod!

Have you read all the entries regarding more power? I assure you that you can save a world of time and trouble by reading the hundreds of hours that have been tested, applied and regretted on this forum. I am in agreance with you, I have never seen additional warm air reduce power! You will need an intake!
The SRT-6 is a strange bird indeed. Glad to see your exploring and sharing.
Thanks for anything you may contribute.
Enjoy the Ride...

Actually these holes appear to be there to remove water that has entered the intake hose in the front of the car. Noticed that there was some residue in the bottom portion of the outer cover when I removed it.
Oh, btw, to remove the "bulges" you just have to pry back on the tabs located on the sides of the bulges. Be careful they are three years old and mine were a bit stiff. Easy to reinstall, just snap back in place!

i like the factory 55 CAI , but went with NeedsWings with no regret
they have been several post on the CAI productions

OK, I'm a little late on this one, but firstly, that is a "silencer" of sorts for the intake. No biggie.
The reason you shouldn't have those holes exposed to outside air is because you're sucking in UNFILTERED air. You can seriously damage your engine this way, especially if you live in a sandy climate.'
A better solution perhaps is to cut the ends off of the baffle piece, and use them with the stock box that surrounds the baffle. This way it still seals tight, and should be louder/arguably flow more.

At any rate, it diminishes the intake pressure from the front snorkels(ram effect at 60mph plus). I was worried about this as well because I made my own code3 style intake and was worried about the pressure coming from the front being lost.
I think that if you were to test this, you would see better lower and midrange numbers over say a SL55 setup, and at high speeds the SL55 setup would perform better. It all depends on what you want out of the car. I personally don't regularly take it up over 120mph that often so the code3 style works for me.
Yep still have the same setup (I guessing you were asking me).
Have changed the filter once so far.
Still working great! I love the cheap easy mods!
