Is this the same as the intake boxes that Needwings is working on ? Do you have any pics of the intake manifolds your did ?

I never saw any pictures, are you modding the existing boxes and can you still use the factory engine cover and SL55 boxes

Needwings intake manifolds are completely aftermarket units. I use the existing manifold and eliminate the biggest restriction which is the tiny tube leading up to the tank from the y-pipe. IMO, the tank size is of no restriction(ie the stock one is just fine). I managed to squeeze the stock intake on but do not have an sl55 intake to test fit, though im pretty sure it would work with minimum modification, if any. I also cant comment on if the engine cover will fit, but ill try to check that when i get home. These pieces provide a mostly stock appearance, but the power gains are amazing! I hate to embelish anything to much but this morning it was 58 degrees on the way to work and my car felt like it was on a small shot of constant nitrous. The traction control light even blinked at 65-70mph....i have never seen that happen before(not that im saying your car will do this lol). I simply could not stop flooring it all the way to work.:o The only other mod that gained me this much power was the 185mm pulley.

If I remember correctly from your posts these will work with aftermarket intakes, e.g. BDJ, Needswings, etc.

The thicker 2.5" tubes on the modded manifolds touch the stock intake where it bends inward toward the t/b on both sides. I managed to squeeze the stock unit on but it was slightly kinked and stretched. Not exactly a perfect fit. If you were determined to run the stock intake or sl55 intake im sure it would work properly with small extensions in the intake tubing where the area of interference occurs.

The BDJ's intake did fit, my NW style custom intake fits, a member who has an actual NW intake is probably going to purchase a set of my manifolds just to confirm 100%(should be no problem).

Will be good to information.

I have a custom intake I will have to go look at to ensure that it fits. I use a 3" pipe on the passenger side.

I just checked the engine cover and it fits fine since nothing is changed where it attaches. It also fits my intake for that matter.

Id rather leave the powdercoating to you to ensure its done to your liking.

No driveability issues whatsoever other than lack of traction...lol:p

have these been tested without an LET tune? is the $750 cost including the LET tune? or just the manifolds?

If you have a second car or do not mind the 2 week downtime(from when i receive your manifolds) they will be your originals modded. Otherwise you can pay a core charge and ill send you an already completed set and upon receiving your stock manifolds in good condition you are refunded that amount.

I may even go ahead and try to have a modified set on hand in the future, that way delivery is immediate. But the MB guys are gonna want theirs to say "AMG" not "SRT6" so id really have to have 2 completed sets on hand which is more costly to myself. I suppose it depends on how many commited purchases i get.

Yes, and no. My buddy Brian has had a set on his car for about 6 months now with no issues, and he runs nitrous...NO TUNE.

I have had a tune since before the manifolds,and a retune to compensate for the manifold modifications.

$750 is for manifolds only. You work out a tune with whomever you prefer.

I went back and cleaned up the original post to make it more concise.

Something to keep in mind when comparing manifolds and prices. Do the "other aftermarket intake manifolds" have a tune with their dyno numbers? I think they do.http://www.mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif

Let me address the tuning issue because based on what ive seen in other related threads im not sure everyone gets it. You can bolt these manifolds on your otherwise stock car and expect to pick up power, but a tune will optimize the power and safety.

Every car and the conditions its driven in vary. Hypothetically after EVERY MOD you should check a/f and adjust the tune accordingly. Im well aware thats not feasible for everyone. I have my tune done through Jerry at LET. My tune is a custom combination of when i sent him my modded manifolds and other adjustments he made from other track results. This represents countless hours of dyno time and research on both his and my parts....and MONEY! I am willing to give permission to LET to use anything learned from tuning my manifolds towards tuning anyones ECU as he sees necessary.

i would imagine even us SRT-6 guys would prefer 'AMG' on our manifolds anyways. (i know i would.) i don't want the down-time, so what would total cost be with 'core-charge?'
i wonder why LET, TVT or Needswings just doesn't start selling 'power-packages,' with a group of upgrades including a tune in one swift click of the mouse.....? (intake,exhaust, HE and tune etc)

when i bought my jaguar, i just ordered a 'power-package' which included intake, exhaust, tune and pulley at a slightly discounted price...

If you want them to say "AMG" id have to receive back a set of "AMG" cores. I doubt its important enough to you to buy a set simply for that reason.

I agree with you on the upgrade packages. At the moment we have to peice together our own. Everone has their own idea of what is "better". Sl55 intake vs NW intake, C3 pulley vs LET pulley, LET tune vs Inmotion tune, etc, etc.

I grew tired of waiting long periods of time for aftermarket parts to be made. Most of them i could improve upon anyway with my own custom version. Thats the situation with my upcoming exhaust and headers. But im taking it one step at a time(quick steps though);)

I see an opportunity to make a little cash on here as well. For you guys that are going to send in your mani's how much are you willing to pay to rent mine for couple of weeks. After next week's race I'm sitting idle till 1320x comes to town in Nov. Ebay style bidding.
