Since I have one of both perhaps I can offer a decent comparison

To answer your questions:
1.) It's a great idea!
2.) It's pretty darn close. My Coupe will do a respectable 26 mpg., the SRT usually around 22-23. It's tough to keep good mileage in the SRT because your foot feels compelled to occasionally stomp on the pedal for no apparent reason.
3.) Once again, pretty much the same. Darn near the same engine, darn near the same electronics, darn near the same body.

Stiffer ride, better seats as mentioned above but the main reason is (duh!) that all hand built, one tech. - one engine, M112 E32AMG Mercedes engine.
Reason enough.
