no roll cage for me....will install the larger bars in order to club race, but no cage...use to work on pro stockers in the 70's when I was a lot younger, installing roll cages, used chrome molley tubing...prolly could do it myself, but just isn't worth it to me...they don't seem to enforce it at TnT's...so that will have to be all the drag racing for me..

No disagreement here regarding a cage. If the rollbar could be put in w/o a major hassel, I might consider doing it.

I bought a pair of SLK chrome bars...saw some installed @ the Dragon, they looked good and the increased diameter had added a little height over our stock bars...but I don't think this means anything to NHRA tracks, just the club tracks, which you would figure to be just the opposite...more of a chance of a roll over taking curves than going straight...crazy rules for stock cars...I will tried to raise them just a little, and you will need to change how they bolt up...a little welding, but won't be seen from where they bolt up...

I will let you know, I do know I have to modify the way they will bolt up, and I am going to raise them an inch...gain an inch in diameter, so this will give me 2" and cross my fingers I pass inspection...if not, so be...I won't raise them any higher...because of my windscreen...now this will not help my @ the drag strip...they want a cage...I might save the cardboard out of the Xmas paper this yr and fashion one, paint it blk, maybe they won't notice...

Bottom line............ Will not be going back to Moroso in the near future unless I have a rollbar which isn't very likely.

I was just digging up some old posts, and I can back up Randy on this statement. I forgot my helmet and had to stay above 13.99 and I was booted citing they could see my brake lights @the 1/8th from the tower and I was running on pace of a 12.2 car.

PBI raceway is by far one of the strictest tracks I've been to. I drove down from GA and they almost wouldn't let me race because my helmet is an HJC (DOT) 'motorcycle' helmet... Sadly I didn't know any better when I bought it. The next time I brought my buddies SA-2010 helmet to tech with and then wore mine, since his was way too big.

One of the nice things with the SLK, I have been yet to be booted for being a convertible in the low 12's.

Well, after they let a "kid" run a C6 off the end with no helmet what do you expect?
Man, 18, in serious condition after crash at Palm Beach International Raceway

I bought a HJC just to take there: Untitled Document

It meets the requirements when I last looked.

I knew I could stir this up :P

Thats why I needed to find a thread we were all subscribed to

How have your cooling problems worked out? I got a quick fill in from Rob the other day, I just about drove down to check on you.

After a blown IC pump, &IC, now I am doing head-gaskets. (which I sincerely doubt I need)

I have oil in water, but no water in oil. I suspect the oil heat exchanger but as nobody can confirm one has ever failed, I am being pressured into the head gaskets. I refuse to do "14 hours" work per alldata for 45$ in parts, so I have a port&polish underway on my spare heads, while Rob mod's the intakes.

I will be ready either 9/24 or once I am back from the dragon. My logic is I would rather it break @ PBIR then in GA.

That's what they failed my tech for. Those are standard Snell/DOT motorcycle helmets. You need a Snell SA2005 or SA2010 approved helmet. He pulled my liner out looking for the certification sticker...

I think it's crazy that you can crash a motorcycle with one, but its not approved for a street car at the track.

Mine has SA2005 inside and says snell in smaller letters below DOT.
I have the box/paperwork stating it too, I'll just bring it along.

You are lucky, mine must be an older model then...

I can't wait to see what crazy rules I'll have at the strips here in Germany & Netherlands. Not to mention having to convert my time slips... lol

Doc, will you please get that door fixed. it's killing me tosee it.

Seems the high roll bars mod might interfere with the top closing. Is there room? Otherwise your cardborad will crush.

I'm just suggesting the techs might notice.

this is an old thread Franc....I solved the roll bar issue when I purchased and modded the coupe...LOL....
And no, you need to see what a hit and run butt head did to my car...it is sickening....it's in the shop as I speak....couldn't take it anymore... I will post the results....this weekend...
I still have the bars to install into the roadster, but just for looks, and I will take those bars and install into the coupe just for looks...

Dang it! Looking for more videos!

Hey Doc. Do you ever post pics of the repaired door? Where is the thread that explains what happened. I missed it.
