Surprised my Wife with an SRT-6 for Valentine's...and warranty question
Hey guys,
long time no post...but I've been lurking a bit. I'm amazed at what some of you guys have accomplished with your cars in the 1/4mile, nice!
Long story short - my Wife is 5hrs away in grad school (almost halfway done), and we had to sell our SRT-6 to allow her to go, as some of you know.
I was supposed to visit her this weekend for V-Day, but I had car trouble with my commuter (Ford Focus, bad CV Axle) and didn't have time to fix it. When my co-worker asked me if I was going to visit her, I said "no" because of the focus trouble, and he offered to let me take his SRT-6 Roadster on a 340 mile 1-way trip to see my wife for the weekend! Awesome ol' man! (Ever seen the movie Gran Torino?).
Anyhow, 5hrs later I show up at my Wife's place, totally un-announced. I did call one of her classmates and had her setup a meeting point. My Wife and her Friends went to a Ice Cream Shop...as they were eating, I pulled into the parking lot and her friend pointed out the car. My Wife immediately says "I USED TO HAVE ONE OF THOSE!"
Then she sees me walk in the door and her jaw drops, awesome! She was stoked and the plan went well.
HOWEVER, it has really started to make us think we should've kept our car! So, I have been looking at prices - and they are even lower then they were when I sold mine (which I thought was 'bottomed out').
We are considering purchasing another - but would prefer to wait until school is done (August 2010). My main concern, and question is this:
How long can I wait and STILL get an SRT-6 w/an extended warranty? I don't want to pay for the little nick-nack repairs the cars require...or any major drivetrain issues. At the 17-22k price of low mileage roadsters, another $1200 for a full warranty isn't much. But, how long will they offer these warranties? The car will be 5 or 6 years old by then!
I'm worried if I wait until then, I may not be able to have a full warrantied SRT. Then again, Chrysler may not be around to do warranty work by then either...
Financially, it would be better to wait, no doubt. But, if I had to, I could probably pull it off.
Take care guys - keep up the good work. I sure miss my SRT...but I'll enjoy this one for the weekend.

Loved the story here.
What a great co-worker buddy to loan you his SRT6 !!
I can only imagine the love that came back once you were behind the wheel again.
I don't have answers to your concerns but I hope you pull it off and get another one soon.
Best of luck and thanks for the post.

ShawnQ,
I have moved to Hawaii. Just settled on our new house last month but my srt roadster is still on the mainland. I bought it in feb 2007 with the certificate of origin but was listed as used due to the over inventory thing. It has approximately 6300 miles and is perfect. The extended warenty is till feb 2014. I would consider selling it for $23,000 instead of shipping it. The police situation on the big island is one mile over is basic speeding with no chance of a warning. Just got one with the Pathfinder I bought when I moved.
pm me if your interested.

Aloha,
R.S.,
I'd love to...but can't pull the trigger right now, and especially not at that price. I've seen several much lower in price with higher miles. I have no doubt your car is worth and should bring your asking price from the right buyer. That's the color I had/want also! Why can't she just hurry up and get her P.A. License!?!
Jesda,
I hear ya...they were not that great with mine at first. I then found a dealer that was quite helpful and that I was confident in.

Shawn, It's good to see you on here again. I hope you can find a way to reunion with a SRT6 in the future. Keep in touch!
Hi Shawn,
It's good to hear from you - - and that your wife is doing well in school.
I would think that you would have to buy a SRT6 before Feb 2010 - that's when most of the "auction cars" have their factory warranty expire or find one that already has the transferable extended warranty you want.

Welcome back! Hope you find one soon and at the right price. Maybe you can negotiate a longer warranty from the dealer if you find one there. I got 8yrs 80,000 from my dealer.
Shawn, I remember when you sold yours to have the wife go back to school. It was the right decision. It's nice to see you back and ready for your next Crossfire. I wouldn't worry too much. August is right around the corner and I'm sure you'll find one under warranty for the right price.
Shawn, I also remember when you sold your car and know it was a hard decision to make. I agree with FP it was the right decision. When the time is right I hope you both find the car and deal that you want. Good luck.
if chrysler goes under then someone will buy it. they wont just disappear. fiat owns 85% of ferrari and maserati. we are gonna have a 60mpg little car coming and they want our trucks
